As you walk in, you’re quickly greeted by the hostess. He was so sweet and congratulated us for our 14 years together! It was such a nice touch! I noticed the bar was poppin and there were many tables occupied. It looked like a vibe! Very modern Mexican feel. There’s a huge portrait of Zoro on one of the walls which was so cool!
We were seated on the lower level to the right side of the restaurant. It was dim and had the perfect romantic feel. Once we sat we noticed it was kinda loud in there for a Thursday night. We still could have a conversation without feeling like we were yelling over each other. I will say that area has something wrong with the lighting as the dimness would change and the lights would softly flicker throughout the whole time we were there.
We met Grant, our server, and instantly knew we would be in great hands! He was so attentive and always came around at the right time. He made some amazing recommendations and was so personable!
We started with the Caesar salad as we love their salad at ATX Cocina! It was just as good!! Big portion and had the Parmesan crunch topping we love! The lettuce was made of baby leaves and it was crisp and refreshing. Every bite was flavorful! We finished it all!
We ordered some of their chicken & pork starter tacos which come 3 in an order! They were so delicious and fulfilling. We also ordered their chile relleno, which is on the secret menu. It is vegetarian so no protein but it was also very fulfilling. We did not have any room for an entree and we were not mad at all.
Hubby ordered their blood orange frozen mezcal and on the first sip he was blown away! He could taste the smoky mezcal and knew he had to take it easy with it. It will definitely hit you!
They brought us some delicious Nutella ice-cream accompanied by the sweetest signed letter of all of the staff congratulating us for our 14 years together! The Nutella ice cream had pecans in it and a sugar cookie. The perfect combination!
We couldn’t resist the churros so we ordered them. It comes with some cajeta and chocolate dip on the side. They are perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. I did think it had a little too much cinnamon sugar but nothing a few taps couldn’t take off. It was the perfect ending to our meal.
We will definitely be back as we really enjoyed it! Parking is much easier than ATX Cocina and the food is just as good! They do have a couple of TV’s by the bar. We highly recommend Bulevar!!
UPDATE: we recently returned for my birthday and hit up their happy hour!! It is now our favorite happy hour in town! The bar staff are all so friendly and attentive! Highly recommend getting there right at 4pm because it does get packed at the bar but the patio also serves the happy hour specials. We absolutely loved the Tacos Sucios so much so we had to get a second order. We will be back and love that their happy hour is also offered on weekends!
The hostess greeted us right away, and Mariah, our server, was attentive and truly thoughtful throughout the night with great recommendations and surprises.
The food was outstanding! Honestly, probably some of THE BEST we’ve enjoyed in Austin! The happy hour machete was MASSIVE, perfectly crispy and cheesy with an addicting side crema that I saved to use in case I wanted to pair with other food items, it was that good.
I’m typically not a huge mole person so I was hesitant on ordering anything with it, but heard they were known for their 800 day aged mole. I asked if it was possibly to try a small amount to see if that would be something we’d enjoy and she brought out a sample to try and WOW! They do a savory style mole and it is JAW DROPPING! Creamy, luscious and definitely worth ordering! This is coming from someone who is not a mole person, well at least the sweet kind of mole. Now I know theres a better one out there!
While I couldn’t get over how incredible the mole was, we were dying to try their carne asada and the venison chops that they had on the menu, especially since you don’t see venison often. The carne asada was well cooked and flavorful and came with a super cheesy chile relleno. but the venison double chops completely stole the show—exceptional tenderness, flavor, and execution.
Their margaritas were excellent, especially the fact that you could make them spicy with their house-made pepper mix, where you can really taste the fresh jalapeños. They surprised us with a champagne toast and anniversary sweets (Fresh feeling strawberry ice cream and shortbread buttery confetti type cookies) that made the night feel extra special. We did follow that with a chocolate cake, that didn’t feel like it would put you in a sugar coma and had a cherry guajillo puree that gave it a little spiced kick.
Absolutely worth the drive and already on our list to return—especially for brunch and one of their mole dishes! They are a must stop in Austin!
24 oz steak cooked perfect medium rare, best migas in town.
Pleasant professional staff.
Chefs with great skills.
Casual friendly vibe.
Was spontaneous visit when the restaurant next door was closed, but, I am glad it was, I will be eating here again !
Spicy margarita has a pepper puree that is delicious and not too spicy/bitter, and the guava gin cocktail (not sure the name) was a very pleasant surprise.
Fantastic views, even on a cloudy day! Cannot wait to go back.
