It’s been almost a year since I’ve had the best hotdog in Hampton Roads, simply because I don’t make it to Suffolk often. So when work brought me out that way, I was super excited. Even though I had already eaten, I had to stop by AJ’s Downtown.
I ordered my go-to Chicago Dog, and it did not disappoint—absolutely amazing. I was also lucky enough to try one of their newer hotdogs (I can’t remember the exact name, something with “Flying Dog”), and wow… it was incredible.
Everything about this spot is top-tier—from the food, to the people who work there, to the owner. They truly serve the best and most unique hotdogs around. If you’re in Suffolk (or even if you’re not), this place is 100% worth the stop.

There’s a whole vibe going on inside this place. Fun decor and Motown music. Great customer service. The food was delicious. Tater tots were really good. The hot dogs were tasty, perfectly cooked. I also enjoyed the chili. I highly recommend.

Not a Hot Dog fan but AJ’s Downtown Dogs really changed that. The hot dog was cooked right and the hot dog buns weren’t soggy and perfectly textured. The toppings are fresh. The french fries are freshly hand-cut and you can taste that. Love the mom and pop restaurant ambience. Highly recommend AJ’s Downtown Dogs!!

We enjoyed lunch at AJ’s Downtown Dog. Along with the food came good vibes and genuinely friendly staff. One thing I really appreciated was their attention to food safety—staff removing their gloves before using the register. You’d be surprised how many places get that wrong. That alone speaks volumes.
We used to go to a well-known hot dog spot in LA and I wasn’t very impressed, so I expected the same anticlimax here. To my surprise, the food was good and I’m usually not big on different hot dog variations. I’ll definitely be back to try more of what they have on the menu.

This place is awesome very conveniently located in the center of downtown N. Main St. in Suffolk, Virginia. The staff was extremely friendly. There is a weenie of the week so check out that when you go in today it was a loaded hotdog beef hotdog with french fries cheese and bacon, it was delicious. It’s a one story level with the road so easy access for handicap. In the little restaurant is set up like an old-fashioned hotdog stand. It was a pleasant lunch and I definitely recommend going here if you like hotdog. It just might be one of the best hot dogs I’ve ever eaten.

Ordered a vegan chili cheese dog. Amazing food. The counter girl making the dogs was exceptionally nice and pleasant.
Great atmosphere in there. The owner chatted for a bit, seems like a genuine guy.
