I recently visited Eyerus Mart, and while I appreciate the effort of any new restaurant trying to make a mark, I was disappointed with the overall dining experience—especially considering it is advertised as an Ethiopian restaurant.
To begin with, the food was not authentic Ethiopian cuisine. The spices, which are the heart of Ethiopian cooking, were completely different from traditional flavors. Instead of the rich, bold, and layered Ethiopian berbere spice, the dishes tasted more like European-style seasonings, lacking the depth and kick expected from real Ethiopian spicy dishes.
Additionally, the portion sizes were not aligned with Ethiopian standards. Ethiopian meals traditionally come with generous portions, multiple side servings, and a warm, welcoming presentation that reflects the culture’s hospitality. However, here the portion was small, with only one side dish and nothing else to complement the main meal. For a new restaurant, offering a fuller, more inviting plate would help create a much better guest experience.
If Eyerus Mart intends to call itself an Ethiopian restaurant, I strongly suggest they revisit their menu and spice preparation, and possibly consult someone experienced in authentic Ethiopian cooking. Otherwise, it may be more appropriate for them to change the restaurant’s name or category to reflect the more European-style dishes they are actually serving.
