The food was great, had it tonight for the first time. Only thing is, towards the end of my dish (okra soup with chicken) I find this paper with an aluminum backing (almost resembles like piece of a gum wrapper) not saying that’s what it is but it’s clearly not chicken or okra in my soup . I just wanna say food prep and chefs should be more cautious and careful of when preparing the food. I’m disappointed bc I was reallyyy enjoying my food and now I can’t even finish it bc of this discovery, it is soo unsafe. God Bless.❤️

I visited this establishment for the first time today, and unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations. Having driven an hour to support this business, I was disappointed by the unwelcoming atmosphere and the “gloomy” state of the interior, which appears to be in need of significant maintenance. The service felt unnecessarily rigid. When I asked if we could sample the snail dish before committing to a full order, I was met with a blunt refusal. While I understand there is no obligation to provide samples, a little hospitality goes a long way for first-time customers. Furthermore, we were told we could not dine in simply because we had an outside cup, which resulted in us having to eat a $100 meal in our car. The food quality did not justify the price or the trip. I had hoped to find a successor to the late BeeGee’s, but this fell short. I won’t be returning.

First thing I’ll mention is that I’m Guyanese and have never tried African (Nigerian) cuisine, however I’ve been curious based on social media. I decided to see where in Long Island, can I find an establishment that had good ratings, so I went with Mama Philo’s. Spent some time reading reviews and also decided to call for suggestions, based on what I leaned towards and spoke to a gentleman who took the time to explain variations of their Egusi. I opted for the Egusi with goat meat and pounded yam, in addition to Jollof rice and it was absolutely delicious! Wonderful flavor profile and definitely has me thinking about what I’ll try next! The only constructive feedback that I called and personally gave, after leading with the positive, was the fact that the portion size, isn’t what I thought it would be, as there were about 3-4 pieces of goat meat, primarily bone and fat, but there were still a few pieces of actual meat that allowed me to fully enjoy the protein portion of the meal. As I explained, I don’t mind paying a higher price for the quality, but just didn’t expect the amount given the price point. I will say, when I did personally express the one slight discontent, the gentleman did respectfully explain that the cost of the African ingredients are not locally sourced, in addition to the fact that I can agree with produce cost increasing exponentially, so I can respect their position, even if I’m not in agreement!
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, despite the one negative. Great tasting cuisine!

I have never tried African Cuisine, so I decided to Uber a few things on the menu. Please note- I’m not able to compare the meal as it’s the first time I’m having it.
I ordered the Egusi and pounded yam. I ordered the peppered goat and the chicken meal with rice and vegetables.
Everything was very flavorful. I enjoyed the yam with the egusi. I added the peppered goat to spice it up a bit. The peppered goat was extremely spicy (painfully spicy). My husband ate the chicken and the rice meal. I looked at his plate, and he ate the entire meal. It was his first time as well.
The food was delicious. I wished I had ordered more yams, but the one piece they sent with the meal was sufficient. Everyone should try this restaurant even once. Support them, especially in their local communities. It’s nice to have such a variety of restaurants in NY- right at our fingertips. How lucky are we?

we LOVED our meal today. we had the okra stew with goat and jollof rice with goat. the okra stew was AMAZINGG. so delicious 10/10. the meat was super tender. the goat pepper soup was not our thing but that’s just personal preference! and ofc we really appreciate having an option for halal west African food 🙂

My first time ordering from a Nigerian restaurant. Firstly the pounded yam was nice made however, the egusi was not what I expected. I order goat and they gave me beef. I’m hoping that was a mistake and not disguised as goat meat because the taste is very distinctive. I paid for goat meat not beef! The egusi had no flavour at all. No pepper or proper seasoning. The worst actually.

So the food tastes good but why is my order BARELY filled with egusi? I took the two pieces of chicken out of the takeaway dish to show just how little was put in there. Second time ordering I just don’t understand why the dish would barely be filled with the egusi when that’s the MAIN thing.

Some of the reviews were worrisome but I decided to give it a try anyways. Ordered a meat pie , jollof with assorted meat , and Okra soup with goat and pounded yam… Definitely did not regret it. Both meals were well seasoned and prepared to perfection!! Looking forward to ordering again and trying some other dishes
**Update: Went back to try the Egusi with pounded yam. IN LOVEEE!! This time I went to the actual store instead of Uber eats and maps brought me to the wrong address, I got lost and called the restaurant the woman at the register was super nice on the phone and in person, great customer service. So far so good, I’d give this place more stars if I could. PS: Google has the right address but if you get lost it’s next to jerk hut

First time ordering here tonight from Uber Eats. The jollof is tasty however the other items is a miss. When I removed the two pieces of chicken from the okra stew, it’s a little bit of stew. More stew could of been added for sure. I ordered an addtional swallow thinking it be enough stew. The moi moi is not cooked! I had a similar experience years ago with the moi moi at another restaurant. I should watch some videos to learn how to make it. Overall not a great first experience.

I ordered the egusi with pounded yams. The first time it was good. I ordered the same again but it was spicy and yam was sticky. I don’t like spicy food at all. If it’s a dish that’s spicy then that’s okay but to make all the food spicy not good. I would love to order the egusi soup and pounded yam again but I’m afraid it will be too spicy.
