I was looking forward to eating catfish. What a huge disappointment this restaurant was. The server was nice enough. The service and atmosphere were okay, but nothing great. My catfish was very overcooked. The ends were not even edible. The hush puppies were burnt and tasted awful. The fries are crinkled frozen fries. It was not a good dining experience.

Our family group gathered at Tallahatchie Gourmet for a late lunch on a busy baseball Sunday. We were seated quickly, well tended to, and were entertained thoroughly by the very talented musician that had the whole table singing. We tried 2 other restaurants before we made it there, but both of those places were out of food.
Everyone ordered something different, so we got a great feel for what all the restaurant has to offer. Our collective favorite things were the macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, and slaw. One of our crew asked for chicken tenders instead of opting for one of the two meat options on the lunch plate, and that was no problem. And it was a good call! The tenders were delicious. The kids got chicken and waffles and they cleaned their plates. The least loved, but still good, item was the Buffalo chicken tender sandwich. It didnt have quite the “kick” he was hoping for. The person that ordered the chicken spaghetti lunch plate didn’t share a bite with anyone, so Im guessing it was good, too. I had the fish plate and it was enough to feed 2 people.
The one complaint shared across the entire table was that our food was cold. Fries, fish, veggies, tenders, chicken spaghetti…every bit of it needed to be warmed up. But we had so much food left over that we will get a chance to do that ourselves when we eat those tasty leftovers for supper.
We enjoyed ourselves and will certainly be back.

When someone talkes to me about Southern food I usually have to ask, “Is it REAL Southern food or imitation Southern dishes?” Let me say that Tallahatchie Gourmet is REAL Southern food. If you want a home cooked meal look no further. The service is fast and the wait time was short. Looking at all of the food coming out of the kitchen made us want to go back and try more. Tallahatchie Gourmet has earned a spot in my weekly rotation of good food in Oxford. If you don’t go you are missing out!

We just left after enjoying the most delicious meal we’ve had in any restaurant in quite a while. Service was great, padded chairs were comfortable, and the food was hot, not just warm. No problem parking today! We look forward to our next visit.

A buddy and myself went for lunch during the week. Got seated at one of the smallest tables I have ever ate on. After about 5 minutes we ordered our drinks, received them the waiter walked off. 20 minutes had passed , and still no waiter to take our order. They were not real busy plus the had lots of help to wait on tables. We watched him take orders from people that came in after us. That will be last trip there.
