We came to Gil’s this evening for dinner. The atmosphere was really cozy and lovely. We ordered guacamole and bean dip and enjoyed the homemade salsa with chips. You can tell that everything is fresh and cooked with a lot of care. We also had beef enchiladas, and a taco salad.. it was great to find this lovely local gem. The owner even came out to make sure we were enjoying our food. We will definitely come back next time we’re in the area.

As someone who grew up in NM I often crave stuffed sopapillas and it’s near impossible to find good ones around the valley so I will go out of my way to visit this place and it rly does the job. Atmosphere is super cozy and the New Mexico flags everywhere remind me of home. Chile is good and chips and salsa are free (a commonality in NM that is very rare in AZ). Highly recommended.

It’s like eating at your friend’s house… a friend from New Mexico who’s got serious culinary game. Highly recommend.

The food is delicious and simple New Mexican comfort food. We had a variety of choices at our table, but my favorite was definitely carne adovada – pork simmered in red chile sauce, served with warm tortillas and trimmings. The red chile was rich and tasty, and the heat was just right – enough to make me sweat just a bit, not so much that it was uncomfortable.

The service was casual, warm, and friendly.

The place itself is cozy (small) and warm. Conversation with neighbors just seemed natural (friendly crowd).

The chips and salsa were fantastic today. His breakfast burritos are the best available at the RoadRunner Park Farmer’s Market. I am loving this patio and can’t wait to taste the green chili enchiladas.

Green chili way too hot and no I can’t handle it. Chicken too stringy and enchilada mushy. Rice undercooked and not fluffy. Relleno was best choice of the $15 meal.

Ambiance good
They try with their food but fall way short
No heat. No taste . Portions are very small for the price.
Taste of taos falls New Mexico short.

I’ve been wanting to visit Gil’s for awhile, and it did not disappoint.
First off – this is one of the few restaurants in the valley that won’t freeze their patrons by pumping their A/C. The dining room was a very comfortable temperature.
2nd – they have a small and cute dog friendly patio.
The food was delicious, not too spicy – but the heat was still there. I had the red chile smothered beef sopapilla – it was the perfect way to end my week. As a native New Mexican – this place is legit. Plus, you can’t beat the prices – the quality you get for the price is top notch.
We will for sure visit again.

I hadn’t stopped in here in about three years as I live about 40 minutes away! My Brother sent me a gift certificate to Gil’s for my birthday which I put to use for round one today! My Combo plate of a Chile Relleno, Red Enchilada with ground beef and Chicken Enchilada with Green Chile was way above average! Waitress was an absolute sweetheart! Very anxious to come back ASAP…

Fantastic food. Good customer service. Hatch chili is a rare find. Probably the best NM style Mexican food in Phoenix. They are a little hidden and out of the way, so I was happy to find them. Prices can be a little high and I’d like to see more lunch specials but overall I’m happy with this place. I rarely hand out 5 stars on food. I eat at a lot of places.

The menu is made from family recipes and it shows. The quaint dining area and personal service made it feel like I was visiting an old friend. The green chili has a perfect blend of flavor and spice. I can’t wait to try more!
