Everything we ate was done very well and not over seasoned.
Finally, a restaurant where the artisans were craftsmen at their task.
The meatloaf was what I would define a meatloaf should taste like. The sauce on the meatloaf was not ketchup in taste.
The red snapper was done so well and I can honestly not remember the last time.I saw someone with red snapper on their menu.
The Catfish with the tartar sauce was amazing.
And The corn casserole was out of this world.
This place obviously warrants a revisit in the near future.
Our waitress Serenity was excellent. She answered any questions that we had about the menu and she took very good care of us during our dinner.
They had a good choice of items on the menu, some of which are higher priced than others, but they are definitely more affordable then some people probably would believe. Our food was fresh and very tasty. Jennifer had the salad bar and a bowl of tomato basil soup. I opted for the meatloaf with green beans and macaroni and cheese. Jennifer has a pretty refined palate and really appreciates a savory tomato soup, which is not something that is easily found. I am pretty particular about meatloaf, green beans and macaroni and cheese. LOL. I decided to go all out and put them to the total test. We both were extremely happy with our dinner. Everything was prepared flawlessly. I even have to say that the sweet tea was very good, and not overly sweet. I don’t usually get dessert but I opted to try the blueberry cobbler. It came in its own little tin and had a topping like a fruit crisp. It was just as excellent as the dinner.
I ventured outside, despite the fact that it has been raining off and on all day, just to check out the deck area. I know that I look forward to spending some time up there with friends in the future on a temperate spring/summer/fall evening. There were plenty of chairs as well as benches and couches for people to sit together and have an enjoyable evening under the stars.
I would definitely rate this among the best restaurants in Wichita Falls and would encourage everyone to try it at least once. Like I said, you can go there and spend $75 or $100 a person, or you could spend about $15 a person, and either way you will be equally satisfied.
The food was… decent but a bit overpriced. My wife and I had the burger and fried chicken, and while those were solid the sides were extremely lackluster. My cornbread was cold (the green beans were fine though). Her fries looked and tasted like a bag of frozen fries that were quickly cooked and thrown on a plate. The hush puppies had little flavor as well.
Service was good, nothing spectacular but our server did his job well.
The atmosphere though was… bland. It felt like I was eating in a soulless corporate office, just trade the cubicles for booths. Speaking of, the booths felt to far away from the tables, and I had to sit all the way on the edge just to comfortably eat my food over the table.
We probably wont be back, especially at the current price point of the food here. Its especially rough because you look at some of the menu pictures from a year or so ago and prices appear to be up 10-20% across the board (with some being even higher). The food quality just didn’t match up with current prices.
We all ordered various southern dishes and everyone cleaned their plate! Meatloaf was just as expected, sliced think then fried crispy. Fried chicken and chicken-fried steaks were great, and the burger was juicy and cant-put-it-downable. Lots of side dishes to try. Collard greens were awesome. The salad bar stole the show, though. Biggest and widest selection we’ve seen in a while, and certainly best salad downtown. Huge bar and wine list.
Inside music was great! (We liked the throwback tunes.) Wait staff attentive and friendly. The owner came by to check on us, too, and chatted for a bit.
Apps, two entrees, a dessert, and drinks for two and our ticket was right at $60.
(Forgot to get a few photos until everyone had stared tucking in. Sorry!)
