Been a patron for 10-14 years. At first this was a GREAT place. Food homestyle, service friendly, prices better than most. Last 2 visits were with a recent health change for my (local) friend; a VET, with recovered heart surgery, vision loss (can’t see the menu), some hearing loss. His needs were dismissed, odd questions about his difficulties, NO concern for his dietary needs, rude behavior from 2 separate servers or cook. “We don’t serve sliced tomatoes off the Menu”. Food is now blah & mediocre. Staff is discriminatory.
Management or owner needs to go back to a different vision of service to the community.

Great food, great service period. I was in the restaurant at the same time as Mr Sandage and 100% disagree with his poor review. He was rude to the staff who tried to accomodate his every demand but he did not want to be satisfied not to mention he was attempting to order items that were not even on the menu. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was fresh, hot, and delicious just like home cooking. My husband and I will be back!

Home cooking, friendly service, very affordable and one of my new favorite eating places. Mr. Sandage’s review of Bumpus Meals was unwarranted. I was in the restaurant at the same time as him and witnessed his rudeness to the staff who were trying to take care of him. The waitresses are friendly and attentive. The food is fresh, hot. and just like mama used to make. We will be back!

If you’re ever passing through a small Southern town and stumble across Bumper Mills Café, do yourself a favor and stop in. This place is the heart of the community, and it truly captures that warm, down-home Southern charm you can’t find just anywhere.

The first thing you notice is how welcoming the staff are. It’s not that fake “scripted” hospitality you get in chain restaurants—it’s genuine, like walking into your grandmother’s kitchen. The servers greet you with a smile, they remember regulars by name, and they’ll ask where you’re from if you’re new in town. You can tell this café isn’t just a business, it’s a gathering place where neighbors catch up over coffee and biscuits.

Now, let’s talk about the food—because that’s where Bumper Mills Café really shines. The biscuits are fluffy, buttery, and baked to perfection, and they taste like someone’s grandma still makes them fresh every morning. The gravy is rich, peppery, and creamy—poured generously over the top like it’s supposed to be, not in tiny stingy portions. Their fried chicken is golden brown with the perfect crunch on the outside and juicy on the inside. And don’t even get me started on the pies! The coconut cream pie has a light, airy filling that melts in your mouth, while the pecan pie is sticky, sweet, and downright addictive.

One of my favorite things here is the meat-and-three plate. For those who don’t know, that’s a true Southern classic: you pick one meat and three sides. I had country-fried steak with mac & cheese, collard greens, and fried okra. Everything tasted like it came out of a family recipe book. The portions are generous—you don’t leave hungry. And the sweet tea? Perfectly balanced. Not too syrupy, not too watered down. Just the way Southern sweet tea should be.

The atmosphere makes you want to stay awhile. There are mismatched chairs, framed photos of local history, and little touches that give it character—like a chalkboard menu and handwritten signs for daily specials. The locals come in wearing work boots, overalls, or church clothes depending on the day, and it feels like everyone belongs. You’ll overhear everything from farmers talking about their crops to families celebrating birthdays.

What really makes Bumper Mills Café special is how it slows you down. In a world where everything feels rushed, this café is a reminder to enjoy a good meal, chat with your neighbors, and appreciate simple things done right.

If you want the real taste of small-town Tennessee life, this is it. You won’t find overpriced lattes or pretentious dishes here—just honest, hearty food and some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet.

Highly recommend for breakfast, lunch, or just a slice of pie with coffee. If I could give it 6 stars, I would.

I absolutely love this diner for the food and the feeling of being so welcomed. My wife lives how clean it is and very affordable. It is a country diner through and through and that is a huge win.

Great little diner for some down home country cooking. Big breakfast portions for the price. Their country ham is the best.

Bumpus Meals Diner truly encapsulates the essence of a Country Renovated House Restaurant, exuding an ambiance reminiscent of some of the most noteworthy dining establishments that prioritize exceptional food and impeccable service.

While the operating hours might feel a tad restricted for those used to round-the-clock establishments, the quality of the food served here justifies the limitation. After all, culinary excellence like this allows a restaurant the luxury of setting its own terms here.

Despite arriving with a large group and the diner bustling with customers, the service we received was nothing short of commendable. The limited staff navigated the crowd with ease, ensuring our needs were met promptly.

But what made the experience even more memorable was the warmth extended not just by the staff, but also by fellow patrons. Engaging conversations about personal anecdotes, local legends, and the rich history of the town added depth to our dining experience, making us feel like a part of the Bumpus community.

Food is always excellent, home cooked meal style. Never disappointed. Small quiet location, hidden gem. Prices are fare for the quality and quantity. Best deals are the daily plates ( breakfast or lunch ).
