Great food and great service. They made an Out of Towner feel welcome and like family.

Never had a bad meal here, everything is quite good. The small size of the cheese steaks are not worth it, just get the big size. Onion rings are very good! No idea why there are so many negative reviews on Google, they’re much better than reviews would lead to believe.

I absolutely love Hwy 55, so that is why I am giving a rating of 5 stars because all other Hwy 55 establishments have always had AMAZING SERVICE . However, this particular location where my brother and I stopped to have a quick lunch after a wonderful day of fishing, the staff didn’t even bother to greet us when we walked in and the lady….well the RUDE woman..because a lady is POLITE… that took our order had a HORRIBLE attitude….maybe she was having a bad day but her attitude was absolutely AWFUL!!! She acted as if she was doing us a favor to take our orders. So for this reason, this particular Hwy 55 I wouldn’t recommended to anyone simply for the HORRIBLE ATTITUDE of the cashier. As for the food…it was amazing as always! So my compliments to the ones that cooked our food!! Thank you for keeping the reputation of amazing food up to standard!! But to the RUDE CASHIER who took our order…try smiling and at least act like you enjoy your job or find somewhere else to work where you can try be a happier person and actually enjoy your job. Good luck with your future as it certainly isn’t looking too bright with that attitude of yours. Have a good day!

I wish I would have read the reviews prior to attempting to eat at this restaurant. We are visiting Belhaven from out of town (Charlotte.) We decided to eat here for our first night out since many of us have eaten at other Hwy 55’s back home. If I could give a rating of negative stars I would. We have never been treated so poorly before even sitting down to place an order. After entering the restaurant we stood waiting for someone to even acknowledge our presence. No one ever did. We decided to sit down at a booth. I could see and hear the wait staff at the back of the kitchen beginning to argue about which one of them were going to wait on us. Neither waiter wanted to serve us. They continued to argue in plain sight and by this time the rest of my party became aware of what was happening. One of the waiters said “fine, I’ll do it.” By this time we decided to leave and find somewhere else to eat. My mother is from Michigan and was very appalled by this showcase of southern hospitality. I think this restaurant needs an overhaul by “Restaurant Impossible.”

Over the past two months, the food and service has significantly declined. The workers do not greet or acknowledge you for long periods of time. The food quality is also poor. During my recent visit, my husband and I ordered two burgers all the way. Both burgers were paper thin and drenched in Mayo. When I pointed it out to waitress, she walked over to cook and told him. He mumbled under his breath and continued cooking. The waitress never came back to table. I asked for owners name and number, and no worker knew who the owner was. I try to give businesses the benefit of the doubt with the pandemic in effect, but this restaurant seems to get worse each time I visit. At this point, I will take my business elsewhere.

It was after 2:00 in the afternoon and there were not any other customers in when we get there and all of the tables were dirty! I can promise you that none of them had been wiped off since the lunch crowd had left! I had to ask for the table to be wiped off! There were 3 waitresses on duty and I never saw a single table get wiped down while we were there. The food was okay, once we got it.

They have totally lost my business. My husband and I had our masks on when we went in to pick up our called in order. Our actual waitress was nice and had even used hand sanitizer before placing our order in the bag. When the manager, who had been outside on the phone, came in he went around the counter and yells out “I’m being robbed”. A waitress informed him that he shouldn’t be yelling that out. He then said we had mean eyes. Seriously! On top of all that, get home just to find out two of the orders were wrong.

I wouldn’t even be rating this place but it won’t let me post without giving it at least one star.

Stopped in for lunch while on a family road trip since Hwy 55 is my favorite restaurant. One of the waitstaff opened the door for us and we were greeted by the rest of the staff as well. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is very clean as well, which is noticeable as soon as you walk in. This is one of the best Hwy 55s I’ve been to. I was very impressed.
P.S. I LOVE the waitstaff’s bows, I have two just like them!

We had eaten at the store in Washington the day before. We also had eaten the exact same meal and it was “hands down” awesome. Belhaven- The Cole slaw was rotten like it had been left out all day and night. Even had a bad smell. The hamburger steak tasted terrible. The gravy peppers & onions was one big clump. I even took a photo. I asked the waitress if that was supposed to be gravy and she stated yes but it didnt look right. We heard her say something to the cook about it. It wasn’t clumpy like it needed some water added like usual, it was straight up NOT normal. Ya know, I raved about this place when the new managers took over. Because for once the food was actually great. Then the newness wore off. Another time we had got some hamburgers and the meat was rotten and stunk so bad. It was take out. I even called back up there to tell an employee they may need to pull the meat. I didnt ask for a refund. I didnt ask for more food. Just didnt want them serving rotten meat to anyone else and God forbid if somebody had got sick. But I shouldve known at that moment that Hwy55 was back to it’s normal self. We are locals and eat out often. I can assure you we will not be stepping foot back inside that place. I just wish the owners could have seen and tasted the food that night. I would be ashamed to have my employees serve food of the sorts. But hey, they dont know what’s going on if nobody shares their experiences. This is the exact same reason we quit going when old management had it. The food! Those young kids dont care what they do in that store or how long foods left out etc. Their kids…and there just trying to earn a paycheck. I’ve worked with the general public for 30 yrs and I know you cant please everyone and people will complain. But this isnt just complaining, this is spoiled rotten food and if someone doesnt step in soon, then somebody’s going to end up with food poisoning or worse. Maybe the owner needs to send a few incognito friends inside for dinner a few nights a week. Just a shame, because this store has so much more potential.

After hearing that Highway 55 was open again we decided to try it once again. We know that it is now supposed to be closed once a week for cleaning, but we went on a Tuesday night during what should have been operating hours. The doors were locked.
After reading the reviews, I can see that, months ago, the problem was partly because the manager didn’t read reviews completely.
Even when reviews were bad, he/she replied with a thank you. Big clue. !
hope that, if/when you reopen, the current manager, or new manager will read the reviews completely.
Maybe it is felt that we are a low priority be size we have fewer resodents than your other locations, but with new growth expected, we need our Highway 55 to shine.
We were recently in Elizabeth City. We saw the beautiful Highway 55 there. However, we chose NOT to eat there because of the lack of care given to the Belhaben location.
Whether it be money, wait staff training, or onsite manager, a better focus on improvement here could bring you better profits elsewhere, as well.
