To find this gem of a Southeast Asia restaurant, you need to go down to the basement. First of all, the food is delicious (worthy of 5 star rating) and the owner is friendly and willing to accommodate my requests when I just wanted some stir fry veggies not on the menu. I would classify the taste more of a fusion SEA cuisine. The Laksa has a slight taste of tom yum, the Char Kway Teow has a hint of pad thai taste in it. The ice thai tea has a lot in common with Malaysian ice lemon tea too. Their Asian Army house beer is light and not unlike Tiger. But for the purists out there, while it is more fusion than I expected, I’ll emphasize this did not distract from the overall tasty flavors.

So happy to see South East Asian Food available and even happier to enjoy the food. I tried laksa, char kuey tiew and hainanese chicken rice and they were so satisfying. The laksa was the best in my opinion. The food was delicious and ambience was great with good service. Highly recommended from a Singaporean (:

A hidden gem. Pretty amazing spot for breakfast and a lot more (Southeast Asian style). I came across this authentic SE Asian spot while I was looking for Jamon at Mercado Anton Martin.

Love their Congee (an amazing comfort food for those cold days when you are out and about) and their Vietnamese Coffee. If you feel like something sweet, try their Kaya Toast. I also loved their lunch menu. Their homestyle Laksa is a favorite of mine.

All-in-all a cute place, but wouldn’t go out of my way to come for the food.
The atmosphere is nice – the restaurant is tucked away inside of a market. The food was pretty good as well, but it didn’t blow me away (I got the vegetarian curry). The service was also alright, though some parts of the order took a while to arrive.

Food is amazing, ambience is amazing, service is excellent. It is a bit hidden, you have to go to -1 to find it, inside Madrid market. Worth it. I paid 15eur for the laksa and it is amazingg!!!

Had such a delicious brunch of Nasi Goreng with bacon and egg, crunchy pickles, hot sambal on the side, accompanied by wonderful smooth coffee. Really nice relaxed spot in the market, lovely friendly service. All for 10 euros. Loads of other great options on the menu. Why queue up for yet another avocado on toast, etc. etc. when you could have something deliciously different here?!

BLOODY delicious
I probably never had an Indonesian dish (Sayur Lodeh in this case) outside of Indonesia, that was better than this one.
Enak sekali!

The staff is super fast and friendly, the atmosphere in the lower level of the market vibrant and colourful.
The menu offers a great variety of selected Southeast-Asian dishes (w/ vegan options) and prices are absolutely reasonable.

Definitely a hidden gem, 5 stars for this authentic “warung” !!

After 5 days of Spanish food, I was dying for Asian food. I luckily came across this street food place in the basement of a market. Really enjoyed the laksa here and it was nice talking to the friendly owner! Highly recommend

Asian Army is like a home to me. Stuart and her wife make magic with food.
Also, they always have great recommendations of other restaurants in other parts of the world. That speaks a lot of them.
The lemon cake was a total discovery.
Thank you for the experience always!
