Yesterday we went to City Wine and Cigar for the first time. We had been to this space when it was The Grapevine under different ownership, and the transformation is impressive. The new owners have really taken things to the next level. The wine list has expanded and is now more thoughtful, aiming at an affordable price point rather than relying mostly on keg wine like before. They also purchased the pizza place next door, which means the food options are much better.

The inside has been remodeled with a wood accent wall, a full bar, and rows of bottles hanging neatly behind it, which look great. Wines and beers on tap are clearly posted. There’s also a large walk-in humidor. I don’t get cigars but to each his own I guess. I don’t really see cigars pairing with wine at all. This is probably why it took us this long to visit. We chose to sit outside under an umbrella table, and thankfully there wasn’t any smoke from cigars or cigarettes while we were there. The crowd skewed a bit older, and I suspect many were from the nearby Victoria Gardens development.

Service was warm and genuine. Our waitress was attentive and friendly, though there was a clear lack of wine training. She didn’t present the bottle, offer a small taste to check for faults, or even wipe the rim after pouring. Instead, she immediately filled our glasses so high that swirling was nearly impossible. These are small but important rituals that set a wine bar apart from just a neighborhood spot. If you order a bottle you will need to ask for a sample and ask to pour your own wine.

We ordered the Mediterranean plate to go with our bottle of Alanera Rosso Veronese. The wine was soft and approachable, with ripe dark fruit, a touch of spice, and smooth tannins and easy to enjoy on a warm evening. The plate came with hummus, olive tapenade, tzatziki, naan, and cucumber slices. Everything was delicious, though I’d suggest adding more cucumbers or even sliced carrots since we ran out of “vehicles” to scoop with.

There was live music outside that added a fun energy. They post a schedule, and I’d definitely recommend going when they have music and sitting outdoors if the weather allows.

As a neighborhood bar, this place is fantastic 5 stars. As a true wine bar, it still has some growing to do: 3 stars. Overall, though, we had a great time and will be back, especially for the live music and the improved wine and food selection as long as there is no smoking.

My wife and other family members have all been raving about this place, so I decided to join the crowd one recent evening. It was chilly outside, but because it was a Tuesday—Smash Burger Night—the inside was packed. We resigned ourselves to outdoor dining, but with the ambience—and comfort—provided by a propane patio heater.

The menu is heavily Alden with meat-based dishes, which makes it tougher for patrons who are not of that persuasion. But they were happy to modify a pasta and meatball dish to just be a massive mountain of penne smothered in a robust marinara sauce. It was filling and delicious.

My wife went with the Smash Burger, which she heartily devoured. My step-daughter ordered the wings, as did my sister-in-law. My step-nephew ordered a huge pizza. All told, the five of us were very satisfied with the food. The service started out great, but slowed a bit toward the back half of our experience, but not to the point of being annoying.

While the wine selection is impressive, so is are their beer offerings. I chose an IPA from Palm Coast—make that two of them—and they were the perfect complement to my pasta.

Two thumbs up from all of us!

Great atmosphere, food, and service. The open mic on Sunday from 4 to 6pm hosted by Patty has some of the most talented musicians in the area. Come out for the food stay for the music.

It took 1 hr to get a bowl of soup, and 1/2 hr to get a sandwich. Don’t go on Friday night, they aren’t organized to handle the amount of clients. They had plenty of servers who need some training. The music was good, and sitting outside is delightful so prepare to enjoy the atmosphere while you wait and wait for your food.

I went two nights in a row and sat on the patio both nights. Gracie was fantastic. Angela was fantastic. The food was really good. The wine was fantastic and the beer selections acceptable However, the outdoor heaters are junk. Angela is a miracle worker that she was even able to get the thing lit. But they are unsightly and most are broken and bent up. This needs to be improved.

Service was awesome! And the food was really good. What a nice place to relax! If I could critique one thing it would be the patio. They have heaters and they’re all banged up and kind of an eye sore. A lot of them don’t work. It’s unfortunate to watch employees struggle with the finicky ones especially when it’s busy and they’re trying their best to provide excellent service. Such a cute spot but it’s time to invest in some new patio propane heaters.

The food at the City Wine and Cigar is always wonderful. I’m particularly found of their amazing selection of appetizers such as the Shrimp Cocktail, the City Dip Sampler, and Caprese Bruschetta. They have a the have a great selection of fresh salads, pizza, Italian entrees, and sandwiches. They have a great selection of wines, liquors, and beer. The bartenders make an amazing selection of delicious, hand mixed cocktails.

Great food, amazing energy, and a staff that makes you feel like a welcomed part of their crew. Bring your appetite and your sense of humor!
