A “rare gem”, “go out of your way to get it” kind of place. I ordered two sandwiches and while they were being made we were chatting about another the owner said was his favorite on the menu. Someone came in who had ordered it recently and he asked her how it was in she said “Amazing, I’m actually here to get two more”. I ended up ordering it too after all the praise. All three sandwiches (which was half of the menu) were excellent. I was convinced each was going to be my favorite until I took a bite of the next one. Each was a well crafted mix of flavors and textures; the kind of sandwiches where you find yourself dusting off your old panini press thinking about trying to recreate them. Well worth the price of admission and sure to be a regular stop whenever I’m back in town.

Stumbled upon this gem when in town for the weekend. Small and quiet, but bright and inviting. Logan was the lone employee and was incredibly helpful and kind. I tried a slice of the pistachio mortadella and it was incredible. I was going to get that sandwich, however Logan mentioned that the pastrami was the best he’d ever had. I went with it, along with some pickled Fresno peppers, and he wasn’t kidding. It was also one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had! The star of the show, however, was the house made pickle! It was truly excellent! I’m not sure if I’ll even end up in Decorah, IA again, but if I do, I’m definitely going back to see Logan!

Today’s stop at Water Street Deli in downtown Decorah for a fresh tasting sandwich is exactly what I needed. In addition to quality food, the owner, Logan, is very knowledgeable and provides exceptional service to everyone that walks in the door.

In town for a school event and had some time to explore downtown Decorah. Stopped in to grab a sandwich for lunch and was blown away with this deli. Read the reviews, they are all perfectly accurate. I ordered the Waygu Pastrami and wouldn’t hesitate to order again. This deli is a perfect example of a local small business that has a niche offering. If you are visiting, stop in. If you live in the area, support this business.

We visited on a Saturday at noon and it was very busy! The sole worker at the deli said it was the busiest he had seen it. Even though he had to ring up and make sandwiches by himself, he was efficient and professional. We waited about 15 min for our sandwiches but it was worth it! They were delicious, you could tell quality ingredients were used. There were some tables to eat outside. Would go back!

I’ve never left a review before but I found Water Street Deli well worth it. I got the pulled pork special of the day and it was easily one of the best I’ve ever had. The food and the staff deserve 5 out of 5 stars

They recently opened, and things are still coming together, but my mushroom torta from Water Street Deli was one of the best sandwiches I’ve eaten. I’m looking forward to going back and trying something else. Our experience was pleasant and welcoming.
