Lao Sze Chuan Pittsburgh is an absolute experience from start to finish! From the moment you walk in, the space is stunning—modern, beautifully designed, and thoughtfully laid out with private dining rooms, a gorgeous main dining area, a drink bar, and a sushi bar.
The food is incredible—authentic, bold flavors that are clearly crafted with care. Everything we tried was delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented. You can truly tell this restaurant takes pride in both their cuisine and their guest experience.
The staff is welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable, making the entire visit feel special. We also loved being part of their grand opening and creating the balloon décor—it was such a fun celebration and the perfect space to bring it all together.
We’re so excited to have such an amazing restaurant right here in the Mars/Pittsburgh area. Highly recommend—this is a must-visit!

Big portions and great for sharing! We ordered bbq pork buns and sushi as appetizers, then the spicy stir-fried beef and the Salt & Pepper Duck Frame for our main dishes, everything was amazing and full of flavor. The service was good and attentive. The wait for the food was a bit long, but we were there during rush hour, so that was on us. Overall, a great dining experience and definitely worth it for the portions and taste. Would happily come back!

Finding a restaurant that emphasizes the cuisine of one of China’s regions is not easy in the Pittsburgh region, so when we saw notices of this place opening up, we made a point of getting another couple and coming over to check it out. It’s worth the expense and the drive.

While from the outside it does not look impressive, the inside was carefully laid out. There are multiple seating areas, a fully stocked bar, a nice wine selection, and even four private dining rooms for separate parties. We came for a late lunch and were immediately seated and presented with their menu. One note to the management ==> You need to do something with the website! The menu is so much better in person than what is one the internet that it’s not doing you any justice! The menu we were handed was gorgeous! Many dishes shown in full color. Those dishes that are less well-known have full descriptions under them so you can see what they are. Many pages to peruse so we know we will have to come back to try more things.

(We did find some mistakes which we pointed out to our server – Leo).

Leo helped guide us through the menu. He was very helpful and was able to tailor the discussion to our level of knowledge. We ordered a slate of appetizers and entrees. They were delivered on a little robot “cat” (???) which was then chased by a waiter to take the dish from the robot to the table. Unnecessarily cute.

All the appetizers were very flavorful. We also tried one of the sushi rolls (I know, not Chinese, but there is a whole two pages on he menu!) and the fish was very fresh. The three entrees arrived in due course and again, we found them very flavorful and well presented.

We really enjoyed the visit and on the way back were already discussing our next visit and which dishes we should try!

Impressive interior and a very clean place. The service was excellent, and the staff brought the food wearing gloves, which was a nice touch. We ordered a few items from the lunch menu, everything was delicious, and the portions were very large. Highly recommend.

Food was incredible. I have been waiting for this restaurant to open and it did not disappoint. Service was great. Atmosphere was beautiful. Had the pork belly as an appetizer and it was fantastic. The beef flaming pot was delicious and my favorite. The mandarin fish was delightful. My new favorite and the best authentic Chinese restaurant in Pittsburgh

The whole experience here was amazing! We got the half Peking duck (pictured), sweet lotus root, signature pork belly, shumai, dan dan noodles, chongqing chicken, yams and woodear mushrooms, and Sichuan spicy wonton dumplings. There were four of us and this was more than enough food. All of it was incredible! The cocktails (the Cafe Palms and Matcharita) were also really great!

The service was attentive and personable. Tyler was kind, friendly, and checked back on us frequently. Its pretty busy so the wait was long but totally worth it and the food comes out quick!

We made it just in time to miss the dinner rush and still enjoy the speed of the kitchen. All of our food came out piping hot and very quickly! Also, the drinks were tasty, fragrant, and perfect additions to the meal.

Tyler was our server and he was very knowledgeable about the menu and history of the food. His short stories were an added bonus.

We ordered the cucumber salad, fried dumplings, three pepper chicken, a pork dish (the name I can’t remember), and the crispy rice balls with a brown sugar syrup. The entrees are generous enough to share! All of our food was absolutely delicious and we left completely satisfied, talking about our return visit.

Absolutely wonderful with 5 star food, service, and atmosphere! Highly recommend and will return

Very very impressive! The astetics as soon as you walk in are upscale. The lighting was well place and the vibes were super chill for having a classy appearance. The service was excellent super friendly and super cool to just chat with especially George tell him I sent you he will take good care of you. He’s awesome! Now onto the food…This is definitely traditional Sze Chuan dishes with items you wont see at other place around the area because it is based upon that specific region of china’s cooking for sure. HELLO SPICE and the portions are definitely more than proper amounts for the dishes so make sure you’re hungry. I myself was a little teary of the spices levels but I can tell you if you have had Thai spicy a 1 rating under the dish is like a level 2 Thai. IT was perfect for me. Just barely made my nose run and no eye watering, and with a ton of Flavor!!! I had the garlic pork, the fried rice(entree size they dont have sides) the pork shumai which seems a prep cook forgot the pork part but George comped it and tossed me some pumpkin pancakes which were almost like fried flat mocha but pumpkin. SO much variety of dishes too! They have sushi too the classics of course for your friends that you bring that can’t handle spice at all and of course. They have your typical Chinese-American dishes too you get everywhere else. But those aren’t what will put this place on the map. Its definitely the authentic delicious dishes they offer. Im definitely going to be a regular there and make sure I get a broad spectrum on my pallet of what these dishes have to offer! Bravo PS. Ask about the private room …Wow your welcome lol
