Loved the fish and chips! Best cod I’ve ever had for sure. The beer batter wasn’t over powering and tartar sauce perfect. Also, the sweet potato fries were delicious.
My husband had the shepherds pie and he ate the whole plate. I tried a bite and it was very well seasoned. My father-in-law loved the baked cod. Next time I am in this area I will definitely come back for more.
Also, our waitress, Heaven (sorry I forgot the correct spelling) was super nice and provided very good service. Drinks were always full and she kept coming back to check on us.

We arrived around 6:30 on a Friday night, and the dining room was completely full. It’s always great to see a local restaurant thriving. We grabbed seats at the bar and enjoyed a pint of Smithwick’s (served properly in a Smithwick’s glass) while waiting to be seated, which only took about 20 minutes.
Honestly, I was tempted to just stay at the bar because the atmosphere and service were A+. Once seated, we ordered the Queen portion of the fish and chips, which was a generous serving, and the shrimp-stuffed cod. Both dishes were excellent.
Our server was attentive throughout the meal and made sure our drinks never ran dry. We would definitely recommend this place.

The fish and chips were the star of our meal. The coconut shrimp were tasty and cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes were under seasoned. The atmosphere was dated. I would like to come back when they have comedy night. Fish and chips are worth the visit!

Marvelous English Pub. Proper fish and chips, loved the Old Speckled Hen (ale), and a delicious dessert. Server Emily was friendly and charming. Saturday night comedy was a good laugh as well Came back a second time, as amazing as the first. Cottage pie was delicious and just the remedy for a cool overcast day. Guinness cheesecake is delectable. And server Marcia was wonderful as well. This Pub is the best! A few more updates: The pan seared salmon induced a state of euphoria, The Brussels sprouts were a delicious accompaniment. Crispy fried ribs (not pictured) were delicious, the meat just about falling right off the bone. Most recently, the chicken and leek pie comprised a delightful balance of flavours and warmed the soul indeed on a wintry night. And more superlatives for Emily and Marcia as well! The Hope and Anchor has been a pleasure all around

Service was GREAT! Selection of drinks/ale/stout is not to be missed! Food was definitely 5 star. I am so absolutely thrilled to get egg allergy friendly entrees! We will definitely be back! WITH friends !!!
Update : Oct. 2023
So very glad to come again. As usual the food is scrumptious, drinks are not to be missed (selection can’t be beat). Our server was newer but she nailed it with the suggestions and was super attentive to the egg allergy alert. LOVE coming here!

Only ordered the Salted Pub Pretzels. The pretzels were fantastic, but the “stout cheese sauce” was foul. Tasted like straight up mustard. Atmosphere seemed nice. Big parking lot and street parking around the resturant. I’ll have to try something else before I change my review.

My husband is British and we visited from out of state. We love to find Lil British spots to remind him of home and this hit the spot for sure.
The server was so kind, the place is very spacious and even has a pool table. The drinks were awesome and the food was delicious. Love the little added sweet shop full of British specialty items.
We will Def stop here again when we are in town, we loved it.

The food atmosphere and servers were great. The only complaint that I have is that it was comedy night. I did not know about this. The server did not let us know about it when we were at the table until we were getting ready to leave and I had asked. Oh can we stay for comedy and she said of course didn’t know there was a $10 cover charge. I was out celebrating birthday with my aunt and my mom so there was $30. I did not expect to be added to the bill. She should have told us the server that there was a cover charge and the comedy was quite offensive. Racist and downright trashy. Not something that my 74-year-old mother and her sister and her ’60s enjoyed. Beware of comedy night

I was unimpressed with the bangers and mash. The tiniest little sausages I’ve had. And I’ve had Bangers and Mash in the US and several places in the British isles. The flavor was right, but the sausages disappointingly small. Especially for the high cost.
The beer was good.
If I come back – I won’t order the bangers and mash.

We stopped for dinner. The decor is reminiscent of what English style pubs might be like. Large selection of beers and other cocktails. We tried a few things on the menu. Our entrees both arrived barely warm. The Shepard’s pie would have been much better if it was actually hot. Same with baked cod and mashed potatoes, which were also cool and bland. We had soup and a dinner salad and those were pretty good. I feel like there is microwaving or another form of reheating involved in the cooking here because we ordered a dessert that was a reheated brownie type cake with ice cream. The “loo” was quite dark and didn’t have TP in the stall, so I had to go searching in other stalls… which was not a surprising end to the visit. Our server was pleasant and attentive. The bill was about 65-70.00 with no drinks for 2.
