The day of the party, they went above and beyond. They were so attentive, helped with decorations, and made sure everything ran smoothly all night. The food was incredible, and the space itself is absolutely stunning. It created the perfect atmosphere for such a special celebration.
I’m so grateful for their help in making the night unforgettable. Highly, highly recommend!
I visited on a random Tuesday evening during Jan (the day before this review) while solo on a work trip and had the, “Make your won bowl.” I opted for the brisket on top of mac/cheese, with a side of cowboy caviar, and chips. Sat at the bar.
This was recommended to me by someone else who was sitting at the bar when I asked the bar tender what they would recommend as I had never visited before. The person was right. The brisket was pull apart tender, juicy, and a good slice with just a little fat layer. The mac and cheese was not overly cheesy and flavored well. It did not taste like it came from a box. The cowboy caviar was decent, but I wouldn’t order it again. It was a small, SMALL, cup for $2 more and really didn’t enhance the over meal. I added their Spicy BBQ sauce to the meal and it made it pop.
The reason I am giving 4 stars: I sat at the bar and kept getting whiffs stale alcohol or drain pipe smell. It was not constant but happened the entire time I was there. It really took away from the meal. The overall decor is more sports bar vs BBQ joint with a focus on TV/Games, but it probably is what the local patrons enjoy when they go. My only complaint about the food was I wish it had come out hotter. The brisket was warm, but had definitely cooled off before getting to me. The chips seemed like generic Lays BBQ chips instead of something made right there.
Overall: I would absolutely go again and have already recommended the company to friends in case they are travel and in one of the 3 cities they have locations. Sit at a table, not the bar, and ask for the food to be hot before it comes out.
Unfortunately most of the food didn’t impress me. First visit we had the tater barrels as an appetizer, they are the best item I’ve had here, very good. I ordered burnt ends for my entree, they weren’t what I was expecting out of traditional burnt ends both visually and taste . Seemed more like steak tips or bites. Wasn’t a fan. My wife did like her pulled pork bowl Just want to say this is my opinion and may not represent others views.
Second visit was with my 2 year old. Want to try something else in hopes of finding something better. Had the tater barrels again because they are good. Ordered the brisket this time. Again, pretty disappointed. To me good brisket should almost melt in your mouth and have good flavor from the rub and smoke and not be difficult to chew. Had to heavily coat with bbq sauce to be able to eat most of it. Some was too tough to eat at all.
Both times the different servers did great jobs.
Not sure I will be back, but if I am the tater barrels will be my entree.
Their catering side of things is so professional and well organized. This place just straight loves what they do.
Thank you piggy TRF we wouldn’t be complete without the care you give to our community your a true legend…
Thank You kindly!
Thank you

Staff was amazing and very friendly and helpful for our first time there. The food was outstanding! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. We were in Thief River Falls for work and if I ever have to have to go back that way I would definitely stop and eat there again.
Original Review:
I picked up a to-go order from The Piggy BBQ today and, once again, parts of my order were missing.
I ordered a BLT that was supposed to come with chips and a side. I received the side but no chips. I also ordered a 16-piece wing order with the sauce on the side, there was no sauce included at all, and I did not receive the ranch or blue cheese dressings. I paid for 3 extra blue cheeses and 4 extra ranches, but the only dressing I received was one extra ranch that came with the tater barrels.
Normally I’d chalk this up to a one-off mistake, but this has become a pattern. The last four orders I’ve placed have all been missing items. I’ve even used the feedback form on the website before, on one order I didn’t receive the au jus that was supposed to come with my tri-tip dip, and nothing has changed.
The food itself is decent, but consistently missing items makes it hard to justify ordering again. At this point, I can’t trust that I’ll receive what I paid for.
The issues encountered during that first visit were many, and included: the fact that seating yourself wasn’t displayed on a sign in the entry, so as to understand why no one was acknowledging us standing, waiting to be helped, for awhile; service was Terribly slow, in the sense that it took Forever for the wait staff to come take our order, or to periodically come check on our table…And our server seemed to keep changing; it took an Outrageous amount of time for the food to Finally come out (like maybe 1.5 Hours!!!); and, as we’d come in the evening, by that time, a large assortment of the main entrees that we’d desired to order were sold out for the day (like ribs and pulled pork sandwiches), smh!
BUT, The Piggy BBQ has Certainly redeemed itself since then, in my eyes!!! And, I appreciate that they now offer delivery, as well — I think through both DoorDash and UberEats, if I’m not mistaken. Plus, pick-up orders are many times ready by the time you arrive to get your order.
l’ve LOVED most everything that I’ve gotten so far! My faves include the: sweet and spongy cornbread (with actual corn in it), baked beans (with pulled pork in it), pulled pork sandwiches/sliders, the Incredibly tender ribs with meat Literally falling off the bone, the coleslaw, the salads and side salads, the unique and delicious key lime pie, and their BBQ sauce! And I’ve heard that the hopper poppers, jumbo tater barrels, candied bacon, and sausage appetizers are Must-Tries, as well! And lastly, I also really appreciate that they offer more unique beverage choices (like grape soda, ginger ale, and Celsius energy drinks), as compared to the typical fountain soda selection offered at the vast majority of TRF restaurants. However…I don’t care for their macaroni and cheese At All!! It tastes like it uses a combination of pimento cheese and pepper jack cheese, smh, so it seems that its name should imply as much (like, “Pimento Pepper Jack Mac-N-Cheese” or something).
But yeah, definitely check them out! You won’t regret it, and will be Very satisfied with the food!!! Plus, I think they’re even a great place for solos (parties of one) to go watch sports at their bar, from what a guy friend told me.
