Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant. I would definitely come back seasonally when menu changes.
The braised beef cheek and noodles was probably my favorite noodle dish of all time. We left perfectly full and satisfied. THANK YOU to the entire staff and team for such a fabulous evening. Can’t wait to come back.
We had the absolute pleasure of dining at the chef’s table at Ram and Rooster in Metuchen, and it was nothing short of spectacular. Their 8-course tasting menu took us on a flavorful journey — each dish more creative and delicious than the last.
From the poached mussels in a silky coconut base to the melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu, every bite was perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. The green apple ice cream with a nostalgic crumble of Pop Rocks and gingerbread was such a fun and unexpected twist — playful yet refined. And that sticky fig toffee dessert to finish? Absolute perfection.
The whole experience felt like dining at a Michelin-star restaurant, right here in our small town. We live right around the corner and one day while walking my dog I over heard two women walking out raving about their experience. The atmosphere was relaxed yet elevated, and the music — a smooth blend of Kaytranada and R&B — tied it all together perfectly.
We left completely stunned, satisfied, and already planning our next visit. Metuchen is lucky to have a place like this. Thank you to Kevin, our waiter for your patience and professionalism, your sultry smooth voice made the experience even more relaxed and enjoyable and thank you to all the chefs and staff, your ability to work well together did not go unnoticed.
My husband and I aren’t big seafood people, and when my husband made the reservation, he didn’t realize the menu he looked at was reserved for Wednesdays and Thursdays. We were worried we wouldn’t like the food, but I was so happy to be wrong. My favorites were the octopus and mussels. My favorite dessert was the fig pudding.
I know people like byob, but I kind of prefer when I can order a cocktail. My husband did try the ice tea, which was delicious, and it would’ve tasted even better with some whiskey.
They have a prix fixe menu on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but they seem to focus on a very well thought out chef’s tasting menu, and that’s what is available on the weekends. Their menu also states that if you call them at least 48 hours in advance, they can accommodate some kinds of dietary restrictions. They’re at least some what asian-fusion-leaning, so softly and sesame allergies can’t be currently accommodated. Their disclosure is straightforward on their website menu, and I’m appreciative of that.
We did the prix fixe menu and several teas. I think even the owner/chef may have served us?! We’ve had some great experiences at 11 Madison Park and this reminded us of them. Every plate was well-balanced, every bite flavorful, and everything was edible (no useless frou-frou garnishes).
Their tuna tartare, coconut soup, and roast duck deserve special mention, as they were top notch and somewhat unusual in a delightful way. The tuna tartare was served with pear sorbet and the combo was vibrant and light. The coconut soup had pickled bamboo shoots and herb oil which kept the flavor profile bright. The cook on the duck was perfect and every piece was precisely cut. No awkward textured bites, no unrendered fat, and the tiger sauce was a beautiful complement to the rest of the dish.
We also are not opposed to great dining experiences that don’t necessarily fill you up. Much of the time, the delivery/presentation, composition, and overall experience matter more than actually filling you. We expected that to be the case here, but it really was a very filling and satisfying dinner! It’s a testament to high quality ingredients and proper course composition. The crispy pumpkin, as an example, was a lot more satisfying that it might appear to be on the plate. Not a ton of food to the eyes, but we left stuffed and sated. Well worth the price of admission, especially when you are getting the ambiance and theater of it.
