My mom and I visited Queen Mary’s Tea Room for afternoon tea, and we were thoroughly impressed. The ambiance was absolutely delightful—perfectly capturing the essence of a traditional afternoon tea. We opted for the berry-flavored seasonal teas, which were delicious, and the staff even offered us a couple of additional tea samples to try, which was a nice touch.

The sides were both unique and flavorful. The decor of the tea room was simply stunning, creating an elegant atmosphere that enhanced the overall experience. Our server was exceptional, taking the time to walk us through the tea process, as it was our first visit. She also made sure to capture some lovely pictures for us, which we really appreciated.

While the restaurant is on the pricier side, we felt that the experience was absolutely worth it. We left feeling pampered and thoroughly satisfied.

Queen Mary Tea House is a “refined” fine dining establishment claiming to deliver an elegant and formal British afternoon tea experience.

And certainly, you will get an experience, just one where you are deceived, scammed, and held hostage to your reservation.

When calling to make a reservation for Saturday at 2pm the employee on the line made no mention of crucial reservation policies such as:
-Full meal policy. Each person in the group must order a “full meal”.
-Cancellation fee. If you cancel your reservation within 72 hours of your reservation time OR if you decide to leave without ordering, you must pay a fee of $25 per person.

The employee also failed to mention that the only available “full meal” during our reservation time would cost over $90 per person, leaving my friends and I feeling deceived and frustrated. This made for one of the worst customer experiences I have ever had. As there was no escaping the situation without incurring a $100 cancellation fee, we decided to stay in hopes of high-quality service.

The food:
1/5: Miniscule portions, very dry baked goods, minimal ingredient sandwiches, and unwashed fruit. The scarce serving of fruit, especially the grapes, was literally covered in dust and dirt.

The tea:
The tea itself was a 3.5/5, and perhaps the only saving grace. We ordered the Alice in Wonderland Rooibos, Crème Brûlée, Darjeerling, and Raspberry Crème. My favorite was the Alice in Wonderland Rooibos; it was mellow, earthly, smooth, and a little sweet. Next would be the Crème Brûlée, with a delicious aroma and bold, rich flavor and an overall sweet profile.

The presentation:
The entire tea set was mismatched. In traditional, formal British afternoon tea it is customary for the porcelain saucers, teacups, and teapot to match each other.
In the high season of afternoon tea only a commoner would be caught with a non-porcelain tea set, let alone a mismatched set.
For such a “refined” tea house, being served a mismatched tea set and a metal tea pot was a slap in the face.

For a better tea experience per $, just go to Tea Republik, an establishment that makes no claims at fine tea experience, yet outperforms Queen Mary’s on all counts of business ethics and dignity.

Best tea room, service, and food ever! The Queen Mary is our all time favorite, I’ve been visiting from Tacoma for the last 27 years! We recently celebrated Christmas and I messed up my reservation-indicating 4 instead of 5. I forgot to count myself! ‍♀️ And Mary, the owner, was incredibly gracious and accommodated our seating. Thank you!
All of the staff is terrific and the emporium is fantastic! I wish we had a tea room here in Tacoma! ☕️

I have been wanting to visit an English tea house for a while and finally pulled the trigger on this place. Rather than booking online for a same day appointment, I decided to call to make sure they had availability. To my surprise, they had an opening that day for a limited time, but it was perfect for our schedule that day. We ended up arriving early and they offered to seat us at the best table in the house! Everything came out promptly and was surprisingly delicious. I was skeptical that there wouldn’t be enough food for the two of us or that the food would be bland, but quite the opposite! There was so much flavor in each bite and everything was well balanced. We added the jam and the lemon curd (both for an extra charge and upgraded to the Royal tea for a little bubbly. The tea choices were also really good and we each had a pot to ourselves. This place is pricey, but most are and this, to me, was worth it. We were able to find parking right in front of the restaurant (limited to 2 hours). I will definitely be going back!

Love Queen Mary’s! Great for birthday parties, mothers day or other special celebrations. The tea is always wonderful and the food is great. You’ll be surprised at how filling one of those three tiered tea plates is! Can be expensive, so good for special occasions! Always fantastic service!

Loved our visit here! They really gave us
the full afternoon tea experience, including three courses and a tea of our choice. They were accommodating to my allergy requests as well. The food was amazing, the staff were lovely, and the building set the perfect ambiance. If you have the funds, I would recommend this experience.

This place feels like your grandma‘s tiny cozy house. Staff is nice and attentive.

It’s got great custom tea blends and really good tea sandwiches and desserts.

I’ve been to a lot of tea, rooms and different parts of the world, and I love to have a new and unique experience. This is a place I will go back to to buy their custom tea and to have tea service.

It’s great for a small birthday or girls get together.

We made reservations for tea on a weekday. Highly recommend weekdays. It is not as crowded. There is street parking available only. We ordered the tea service for 3 people. It’s very quaint in the dining room. Decorated in a rich victorian style. Reservations are recommended. The scones were lovely with the chantilly cream. All the small sandwich bites were delicious and fresh. We each had our own choice of a pot tea. Accompanied milk options or almond milk available. They start you off with a trio of sorbet and butter tea cookie before the three tier of sandwiches come out to the table.

This is a great treat for birthdays, meeting a friend or treating a loved one to lunch or high tea.

The bathrooms are small water closets. It can be a tight squeeze for those who are tall or handicap. Friendly service and relaxing environment!

This place has a ton of tea options. I enjoyed the two I tried (basic English Breakfast and Lapsang Suchong), but I went over to the Emporium afterwards and smelled a bunch of them, and although many smelled too sweet for me, there were plenty that I wanted to try.

We got the Afternoon Tea tower. Overall, this was not a great tower. The baked goods were quite dry, and I think there could have been a better balance of savory vs. sweet (there was a lot of sweet). I’d give the food a 3/5.

The overall experience and service was great.

I do think their bathroom was painfully small and overly crowded. The arrangement of the location of the toilet paper + paper towels + trash was too close together, so you couldnt really avoid dripping some water onto the toilet paper when you went to get a paper towel. There was a ton of decor in there, which I wish would be repurposed to be more functional (e.g. storing spare toilet paper). I’m honestly not sure how you would use the restroom with a disability, but maybe the other room was more accessible than the one I used.

This place is killer. Incredibly cozy, great ambience, small boutique vibe. The smallest bathroom you’ll ever see haha. But the afternoon tea is stellar, especially the food. Honestly better than a lot of afternoon tea in London. Great experience.
