Atmosphere was great! Super clean and well spaced. Lighting was good and noise level was perfect for a romantic evening. Food was well spaced and gave plenty of time for digestion and conversation. All protein items appeared to be locally sourced which i HIGHLY support! We ordered the shrimp and squid ink pasta for appetizer, pum’kin cocktail for drink, burger and butternut squash pasta for entrées, and the apple crisp for desert. All items were cooked appropriately and came with excellent presentation and plenty of flavors. Biggest knock for me was the fact that the burger was too salty (really strange for a burger) and the fries though beautiful didn’t hit the mark. Also both pastas tried just a little too hard to be different to the point of being just a tad off for our tastes. Despite these minor complaints we received more than enough portions and left pretty darn satisfied. Thank you!

We had a bunch of small plates (scallops, shishito peppers, crab dip, and octopus) and they were all great. The bread that came with the crab dip was a bit hard but that was the only minor problem. The service was excellent.

The chicken Marsala with Joyce Farms chicken is the reason to go there! Best pasta I’ve ever had. The chef knows his stuff for sure and we are thankful for his skills. We will continue to go back for their overwhelming portions for the price, The Downtown Grille is unmatched.

I don’t really want to give a bad review, but I feel it’s fair to share our experience.
We chose The Downtown Grille for a birthday dinner because of the many 5-star reviews, which made the experience even more surprising. The appetizers came out poorly timed. One person received their appetizer while the rest of the table had to wait about 10 minutes for theirs. After the appetizer plates were cleared, it took nearly an hour for the entrees to arrive. Our 7:00 reservation didn’t see entrees until around 8:45.
Unfortunately, every dish, including the sides, was extremely salty and nearly inedible.
The GM apologized and blamed being short staffed and said we were at the tail end of a rush, which really isn’t an acceptable explanation for a meal like this. To his credit, he did comp the meal, which we appreciated, but it was still a very disappointing birthday dinner.

Dinner on the patio tonight was the perfect way to enjoy the first warm weather evening of 2025. We had a party of 7 and everything was amazing. My chicken marsala was the best I’ve ever had….if they have oysters as a special. They are a must try as well.

Chef Harrison has put together a quiet little gem in downtown Winston Salem. I travel extensively (most recently dining at Ocean Prime in Tampa) and would put the menu, food prep and atmosphere of the Downtown Grille up against any restaurant in the Southeast. John the Manager and our waiter Dillon were fantastic. The bread service was the first hint we were in for a real treat. It only got better with each progressive menu selection. Well worth the 30 minute drive from Greensboro. Nothing in Greensboro can compare. Top shelf establishment.

For entrées, my clients shared the 16oz ribeye, which was perfectly cooked, while I opted for the chicken marsala. Both dishes were beautifully prepared and full of rich, balanced flavors. Two of us eat gluten-free, and the restaurant easily accommodated our dietary needs without compromising on taste.
Adding to the experience, General Manager Jon and Executive Sous Chef Giovanni took the time to visit our table, chatting with us about the menu and ensuring everything was perfect. Their passion for hospitality and attention to detail truly set this restaurant apart.
My goal was to impress my clients, and The Downtown Grille delivered on every level. In the process, I also discovered a new favorite spot. I’ll definitely be returning for business or to enjoy another outstanding meal. Highly recommended!
