We usually love going to Joe & the Juice, but this branch was a huge disappointment. The place didn’t feel or look clean, which we unfortunately realized after ordering. One employee was even sleeping in the seating area, which felt very unprofessional. To make it worse, the person preparing our sandwiches wasn’t wearing gloves, completely unacceptable and unhygienic.

The coffee shop lacks professional management and adequate staff training. Employees demonstrate poor customer communication skills and difficulty handling basic orders. Reaching out to customer care has proven ineffective, with no meaningful response or resolution. Compared to nearby establishments that offer superior quality and customer service, this business significantly underperforms.

I’ve lived in DC my whole life. I even worked at the Domino’s Pizza that used to be on this very block back in the ’90s. I’ve seen it all— including customers threatening to shoot you over extra pepperoni—so trust me, I’m not writing this as some perceived pearl-clutching Karen. I know the difference between a bad shift and outright disrespect.

What happened at Joe & The Juice was the latter. My colleague and I stood at the counter for nearly ten minutes (no exaggeration), completely ignored. Not a glance, not a “we’ll be right with you,” nothing. The three young women behind the counter were deep in a personal conversation, laughing and chatting like we weren’t even there. Another customer, who’d been waiting before us, was clearly losing patience too—and they brushed him off with a “it ain’t ready yet” and proceeded to talk ish about him as soon as he went back to his seat.

It wasn’t just neglect—it felt intentional. The smirks, the blank “Gen Z stare”—made it clear they were amused by the apathy that they displayed. It was the kind of contempt that makes you question why you walked in at all, and added injury to insult in what was otherwise a long day where we just spent 15 minutes driving there and another 10 minutes looking for parking and simply just wanted some coffee.

Eventually we left without them saying a word and since A Baked Joint is gone, we had to go all the way to Union Market, where the energy was completely different. The staff at both places we went to there greeted us warmly, took our order promptly, and made us feel like we mattered. The contrast was night and day. Judging by multiple comments under other locations in this city, it appears that terrible customer service is systemic among this DC locations of this chain, and if survival as a establishment is a goal, then please do better Joe and the Juice.

Two years ago, I wrote a negative review of this café. I never imagined that, just two years later, it would become one of my favorites. The quality and service have improved tremendously. It’s now my go-to coffee spot—and I can’t recommend it enough

The three women that work in this location (today) are very rude and unprofessional, and closed down the juicer earlier than closing time. They started taking down the juicer before I got there at 1:56 saying that they did so because they close at 2pm. They said the manager told them to do it and the store policy is to shut the juicer down early. When I repeatedly asked the manager what time they shut the juicer down, she kept saying they close at 2 (mind you it was 1:57 at this point), and this was a corporate policy to close it down early. When I wasn’t buying that, she then told me that they shut it down early because they were short staffed (I’ve been to Joe & The Juice all over DC, NY and even abroad and have never seen more than 3 people working at once, so I felt this was another lie.

When I asked her how many people are supposed to be staffed, she wouldn’t answer. When I said I would check with corporate, she decided she would offered me water or a muffin, yet still had a serious attitude, and yelled loudly at me that “she doesn’t make the store hours” and that she would not tell me her name. The other two employees were rolling their eyes then one laughed loudly and ridiculously when I asked for the managers name. The manager proceeded to (very loudly) tell me I’d been “difficult all week”, I guess because I (politely) stopped by to ask if their juicer had been fixed yet multiple times this week. This is at least the second time the juicer has been broken.

Instead of giving away unwanted free items, in the rudest way possible, they should focus on keeping the schedule they advertise for the thing that’s literally in their name. Especially since this is the first time it has even been working in a long while.

I wont be coming back until there is new staff (which I imaging will be soon unless they change their attitudes) as these women are disgustingly rude to the point that I wouldn’t trust anything they make.

Ordered the açaí bowl that was still frozen had they shared that disclaimer I wouldn’t have ordered it, why not set açaí bowls out so they can defrost? If I wanted ice cream I’d go there. Green shield juice was still mushy when served not “juiced” very disappointed in this location.

I finally tried the TikTok viral TunaCado sandwich, and I must say, it’s worth the hype!

I really liked how crunchy the panini bread was. And the mix of the tuna with the fresh tomatoes and avocados is an incredible flavor.

The service at this branch is always good, staff does not disappoint.

My total was a little over $10 for just the sandwich.

I do wish they wrapped the sandwich better, since it was served to me in a large to-go bag without a tightly secured package that wraps the sandwich itself.

Overall a decent coffee shop but the service is a bit lack luster. the workers did not see excited to be there. When I asked for a drip coffee, they said they didn’t have any. What kind of coffee shop doesn’t have drip coffee? If i have the choice to go somewhere else, I probably will.

I had an iced latte and it was awesome. Strong and tasty.

I spent two hours here enjoying my coffee as I worked on my computer.

The service was great. They offer free wifi, app ordering, seating area inside and outside.

Wow the smell of sandwich in here is sooooo good I need to go back to try it!!!

Joe & The Juice was a perfect quick stop before we went to the DC Comedy Improv. We ordered fresh juice and a Tuna and Turkey Panini. The Panini’s were a perfect size and had great taste.

There was outdoor seating to enjoy your food and drinks and kind of helps you forget about the whole mask thing for a little bit. The interior was also very cool.
