What happened at Joe & The Juice was the latter. My colleague and I stood at the counter for nearly ten minutes (no exaggeration), completely ignored. Not a glance, not a “we’ll be right with you,” nothing. The three young women behind the counter were deep in a personal conversation, laughing and chatting like we weren’t even there. Another customer, who’d been waiting before us, was clearly losing patience too—and they brushed him off with a “it ain’t ready yet” and proceeded to talk ish about him as soon as he went back to his seat.
It wasn’t just neglect—it felt intentional. The smirks, the blank “Gen Z stare”—made it clear they were amused by the apathy that they displayed. It was the kind of contempt that makes you question why you walked in at all, and added injury to insult in what was otherwise a long day where we just spent 15 minutes driving there and another 10 minutes looking for parking and simply just wanted some coffee.
Eventually we left without them saying a word and since A Baked Joint is gone, we had to go all the way to Union Market, where the energy was completely different. The staff at both places we went to there greeted us warmly, took our order promptly, and made us feel like we mattered. The contrast was night and day. Judging by multiple comments under other locations in this city, it appears that terrible customer service is systemic among this DC locations of this chain, and if survival as a establishment is a goal, then please do better Joe and the Juice.
When I asked her how many people are supposed to be staffed, she wouldn’t answer. When I said I would check with corporate, she decided she would offered me water or a muffin, yet still had a serious attitude, and yelled loudly at me that “she doesn’t make the store hours” and that she would not tell me her name. The other two employees were rolling their eyes then one laughed loudly and ridiculously when I asked for the managers name. The manager proceeded to (very loudly) tell me I’d been “difficult all week”, I guess because I (politely) stopped by to ask if their juicer had been fixed yet multiple times this week. This is at least the second time the juicer has been broken.
Instead of giving away unwanted free items, in the rudest way possible, they should focus on keeping the schedule they advertise for the thing that’s literally in their name. Especially since this is the first time it has even been working in a long while.
I wont be coming back until there is new staff (which I imaging will be soon unless they change their attitudes) as these women are disgustingly rude to the point that I wouldn’t trust anything they make.
I really liked how crunchy the panini bread was. And the mix of the tuna with the fresh tomatoes and avocados is an incredible flavor.
The service at this branch is always good, staff does not disappoint.
My total was a little over $10 for just the sandwich.
I do wish they wrapped the sandwich better, since it was served to me in a large to-go bag without a tightly secured package that wraps the sandwich itself.
I spent two hours here enjoying my coffee as I worked on my computer.
The service was great. They offer free wifi, app ordering, seating area inside and outside.
Wow the smell of sandwich in here is sooooo good I need to go back to try it!!!
There was outdoor seating to enjoy your food and drinks and kind of helps you forget about the whole mask thing for a little bit. The interior was also very cool.
