The cafe is small but aesthetically cosy, charming and welcoming. I love its warm lighting and the just as warm servers and owners. We always feel taken care of and that’s even before the amazing food has arrived.
We’ve tried many dishes here and would recommend any of them but recently, as pictured below, I tried the mushroom pasta… and it was just so so so very good. Everything is fantastic!
I’m always looking forward to eating here again.
I ordered the special of tagliolini with shrimp and calamari with garlic, tomatoes and olive oil. The pasta was perfect. The shrimp and calamari were sweet and soft. I wish the sauce was less tomato sauce-y and more garlic and oil with some tomatoes, but it was still tasty and generous serving. My partner got the caserecce with a white veal ragu, mushroom, and pecorino. The mushroom flavour was strong in the sauce and went well paired with veal. Plate-licking good!
Dessert was dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and salted caramel gelato scoops with fruit. We had a latte and a hot chocolate and it was a great ender for a satisfying meal. The atmosphere is relaxed and we never felt rushed. We are looking forward to returning soon!
Such a lovely little quiet corner of Montclair. Yes, this is a BYOB and I definitely will remember that going forward. This adorable Italian bistro is nothing short of perfect. The people and the food are wonderful and inviting. They treat you like a welcomed old friend. (not like family, and so much better).
Something about true Italian hosts, you feel the warmth as soon as you walk in the door and really never want to leave. The space is so well planned out and decorated with a presiding eye that you hardly realize you are in the busy bustling Montclair Center.
Polpettine di Vittello. Veal meatballs with my favorite Cacio Cavallo cheese.
There is nothing like a mouthwatering meatball made with fresh spices and the tomato sauce was prepared with fresh herbs that offer a taste like no other. The serving is 4 large and please pace yourself because there is so many other items on the menu.
For my entrée Fettuccini Al Fungi. This is the velvetiest mushroom dish I have ever eaten. Prepared with garlic and truffle oil. The smell is phenomenal the taste is excellent, not too cloying or bland it was just right!
Dessert was a fancy Salame di Cioccolato. Yup, a decedent chocolate dessert shaped like salami (e) mixed with scrambled biscotti and rum.
What’s not to like? From the moment you arrive to the time you leave they don’t rush you out, and even though they are open until 10:30 or so, you will have to leave eventually. I will be back again to Palato Caffe and Cucina and I am sure they will be here for years to come. Love this place!!!!!
I had the special which was a squid ink fettuccine with saffron sauce and seafood. My date had the lasagna which was made with spinach pasta and had plenty of meat but wasn’t heavy.
We enjoyed a delicious red wine that we brought since it is BYOB and there are no reservations.
I will definitely be back.
Excellent service & food…my new fav go to place. Highly recommend!
