Food was delicious and brought back fond memories for my parents. We ordered two entrees to share for breakfast and they brought us sambusas to start, I’m not sure if they were included in the price or not. The hot tea was wonderful. After checking out they walked us across the street to show us where we could buy our own tea to make at home.
The bathroom was in a locked separate part of the building, that you had to ask to get to and it was out of all towels soaps and paper.

On 02/02/2026, I went to Somali Star after someone recommended them. I had never had Somali food before. I forgot the name of the dish I had, but it was the #1. I asked for tea which I thought would be iced tea, but it turned out to be hot tea and it was wonderful! I was also given a sambusa which was really good. I was given a banana for desert. The dish was VERY spicy. I love spicy but wow, this was some hot stuff! I didn’t mind though. They saw me sweating and they gave me some cold tea and a bottle of water. I wish I would have taken a picture of my meal but I didn’t.

We were very excited to try this place as it has good reviews on google. We went into the restaurant on a Friday evening and every table was dirty. The only employee was on his phone, which disappointed me because there was no other customers and he still didn’t do the bare minimum to bus tables. I asked for a menu and was given a dirty menu with six loose pages inside of it. Most of them were doubles and all of them were cheap inkjet printouts you could barely read due to water stains. We ordered 3 entrees to share. The employee brought out an appetizer we didn’t order, but he kept talking about how good it was and asking us if we enjoyed it. I thought he was being kind since we were the only customers in the restaurant, but he ended up charging us for it. The food was good, but all the meats were very dry.
We had to ask for plates and silverware twice and he did not bring out enough for the table until we asked him again for more. When our check came we were shocked at how much we were charged since it was easily 20-25 dollars more than the menu prices. He told us those prices were wrong and he also charged us for the appetizer we didn’t order. He then disappeared for 10-15 minutes and the other employee could not ring us up and asked us to wait.
When he finally came back we said the bill was way higher than we expected. He eventually knocked ten dollars off, but it was still far greater than the menu prices reflected. We did enjoy the food, but left with bad tastes in our mouths from the experience as a whole.

I tried the Sambusa and some tea and it was all fresh and delicious, the Verde salsa with the sambusa’s made it taste even better! Excited to go back and try some of the other dishes offered!

First time having Somalian food and it was fantastical! The tea is amazing and the gentleman taking our order worked hard to understand what we were choosing (little bit of a language barrier, but the entire order was correct). Loved getting to explore a new culture through food.

Staff appeared to violate basic “must wash hands” rules. Touching face, head, etc then handling food. Left without eating. Hopefully they train better and follow Dept of Health / FDA food safety standards.

Good food, good prices, fast service. The menu has a few vegetarian options that were pretty good! The service was fast and courteous. The waiter gave me a good explanation of the menu and helped me pick the right lunch. It was an overall good experience and the food tastes great!

A small menu and wonderful service. The sambusas were savory and hot. 2 of these alone would fill you up. The meals were served quickly but some items on the plate weren’t hot – just warmish. The injera seemed thin and broke apart, not very spongy. I would go for one of the Somali dishes next time. My wife ordered a chicken dish that was incredible.
A simple dining area in back for the menu orders and seating in the front for regulars that want an ala cart item and to watch TV. Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get. Overall I would recommend and I will eat there again.

My fiancé and us ordered the vegetarian entree on the menu, and we’re given 2 random (goat we think) entrees that we did not order. I asked for the correct order and the server said they didn’t have it and didn’t have anything without meat. My fiancé ate the goat and didn’t really like it, tried some of his sister’s chicken dish which was fantastic, wish they had let him at least order a meat dish of his choosing.
I ate the side of rice and marinated onions off of his plate which was also delicious, would have happily paid for just a plate of rice and onions if they didn’t have a vegetarian dish but that was not an option. Seemed offended that I would order something without meat when it was on the menu and not informed that it was out of stock until it was too late.
