What a cute place! Stopped in for brunch on my husband and I’s 14th anniversary stay in VC. We had never explored much outside of main street in VC, which I am so happy we found this place because it is literally the best breakfast I’ve had in the area. I ordered the chicken fried steak and my husband had the huevos rancheros. We were not disappointed one bit! And when I say this was the best chicken fried steak I’ve ever had, I seriously mean that! It would be a disgrace to eat it anywhere else haha! My husband enjoyed his huevos rancheros but agreed that my breakfast won (;

Service was friendly, welcoming, and fast! We can’t wait to go back (and bring more people with us).

This place has the BEST food. The best service and best atmosphere. 10 outta 10. We knew we’d be by Virginia city so we picked a spot from these reviews and had to go. Now were giving a review. The croissant with the breakfast was perfect. The drinks were and the rest of the plate was DELICIOUS

Amazing food. Actually blew my mind how perfect everything was. Decent price and incredible service. Our server was wonderful and I may go back just for her local knowledge of not the atmosphere and incredible lunch. I can’t say enough about this place.

By far the best breakfast I’ve ever had in my life! The eggs were perfect the potatoes extremely flavorful and the chicken fried steak I don’t think I could ever have it any other way especially how they made their gravy! 100% recommend this is my new breakfast spot

Awesome breakfast and atmosphere. Prices weren’t crazy and Susan our waitress was great. She also gave great recommendations on what to see and do as well as some interesting information for the area. Will definitely be back when in the area again.

I am always looking for great eats, and Calamities didn’t disappoint. Great atmosphere in an old cider mill. Service was top notch (thank you Susan, you are the best!) But the show stopper was the food… The chorizo home fries were perfect, crispy flavorful while the insides were perfectly cooked. The biscuits and gravy rocked… Biscuits done right (and I’m a recovering southerner who knows biscuits) and the gravy was excellent (not too floury or greasy), just meaty enough. The others in our group had the huevos rancheros (with a superb home made salsa), and a breakfast burrito. All 5 star. Absolutely the best place to eat in Virginia City

In search for a place to have breakfast around the Nevada mountains, we came across this place. We did not Jon what to expect but we were super pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is part of an Inn where many characters from Bonanza stayed during filming. The place is filled with pictures, which made the whole experience super cool. The food was good but adjust expectations. For us, we had all we wanted. The best part was service, which was above and beyond expectations. We were in the front room because there was a big wedding party using the nicer room. That was not problem and in fact we preferred it as we had the room for ourselves. Give this place a chance and enjoy your time in this time capsule.

Hidden gem in Virginia City NV , not on main Street just one up.
Very well designed courtyard as you walk to the entrance, with a few tables.

UPDATE: another wonderful breakfast! This time, I brought my husband and our little puppy (who looks like an old man).
Perfection! The breakfast sandwich on a biscuit with hash browns was too good for words! Extra crispy hash browns for the win… thank youuuuuu I’m so glad I found my new local breakfast spot! Thanks for being the place for us early birds

Finding this restaurant was the cherry on the pie in our visit to delightful Virginia City on 9/17 & 9/18/2025. The inside and outside seating are both a real treat. Outside the garden and gnomes are lovely. The stone inside of the prior cider house dining room has history covering the walls. A very enjoyable way to spend in btw ordering and the over the top delicious food being placed on your table. To top it all off Susan the server was delightful and a history buff about the restaurant, the town, and the surrounding area. We had traveled from CA to find and view the wild mustangs. We found a herd coming down from the hill to the Washoe State Park where they ate the green grass. We were able to sit near them very quietly as they grazed.
