We had one of our best dinners at Mario’s Italian Cafe in Palm Desert tonight. On Wednesday, Mario offers a special Prime Rib Dinner starting at 5 PM which includes a Prime Rib prepared to perfection with a baked potato, all the condiments, and a small amount of mixed vegetables and four slices of garlic bread which were crispy, warm and ‘oh so wonderful.’ This was considered the “small plate.” The “largest glass of wine” was a house Chianti which was rich in flavor/taste and color and definitely worth the price of $5.00. The Chinese Chicken Salad was my choice for dinner….and it was excellent. Plenty of white chicken breast meat, cabbage and lettuce were crispy and I smothered it all with the special dressing (which I ordered 2 containers on the side). This is a great place to go if you are on a budget, for lunch or for dinner. There are lot’s of Mario’s Restaurant’s in the desert but not all of them offer Prime Rib dinners on Wednesday but the one in Palm Desert does. Yes, we had dessert…with two forks!! They make the best Tiramisu in the desert (my opinion) because they are using real whipping cream and it’s absolutely wonderful. Try having lunch or dinner there….and you will fall in love!!!! (With the food). There was no waiting time and the service staff was very attentive and quick.

We were in town and looking for an Italian place that serves up all the usual dishes. We definitely found what we were looking for. We even got to meet Mario himself! Everything we ordered was delicious. Exactly what we were looking for. Pasta. Meatballs. Eggplant Parm. Chicken Parm. Pizza. Manicotti. All the food was on point. Our waiter, Vito (I’ll spare you the Godfather jokes) is Mario’s grandson. I grew up around Italian restaurant and Italian cooking. My grandparents ran a place very similar to this one in the 1970s. Try Mario’s for sure!

Love the lunch meals here. Very affordable yet delicious. Serving size is generous for the price. My wife and I kept coming back here for lunch. Pastas and pizzas are great. Service is fantastic. Thanks very much to the staff.

I lived in Rancho Mirage since 2004 until 2022 then moved to Vegas. Mario’s in Palm Springs was our “go to” Italian restaurant but it closed. This one in Palm Desert was equally dynamic. I had the Chicken Parmigiana with spaghetti and an incredible sauce, as usual.
Gino was my waiter (handsome young man and a professional) and though it was the beginning of dinner time with throngs of people arriving, he was right on top of his timing like the career Italian restaurants in Manhattan.
I left him a 50% cash tip ( that way he doesn’t have to wait for his tip money clearing the credit card charge.)
ENJOY FOLKS!

The food and service was good. They do have a few specials. The $5 wine is very good deal. I wish the garlic bread was a little crispier, it was very soft.

We walked in and were quickly greeted by a warm friendly hostess who instantly sat us and asked if we’d been in before (we haven’t).
She explained the portions— (huge vs ultra huge) and even verified with a sample to make sure we “knew”.
We went with Alfredo and Carbonare- and imagine our surprise when the FOUNDER Chef Mario himself- came over and greeted us and shared he had founded this particular location 52 years ago!!
Such a great atmospheric place with warmth and deliciousness!

Absolutely love this family restaurant! Chef Mario and his team welcome everyone to their restaurant and the food is delicious. Chicken Marsala, Ceasar salad and soups were terrific! True gem of a family owned restaurant in the valley.

I rarely give out five stars for any place but this one was exceptional. Service was excellent, food was outstanding, servings were large almost too big. The meatballs were extra money however they were worth every penny, they were the size and I’m not kidding of a tennis ball and we’re excellent.
