Excellent value for the price! The portions are great and the flavors are even better. The staff is very nice and patient. I would highly recommend giving this spot a try. Parking is also great.

I had a blast chatting with the workers here everyone was super friendly and had great vibes, which made the whole experience even better. The food was really good. Turns out they use a special marinated rice for their sushi, and wow, it makes a big difference. The flavors were spot on, and the fish was incredibly fresh like, melt-in-your-mouth fresh. You can tell they care about quality. 10/10 would absolutely come back again.

In town for a work trip. Went to dinner at Hashi Gawa with a co-worker on a Wednesday. Supposed at how busy it was which is usually an indicator that they’re doing something right. It did not disappoint. We had the spicy edamame to start. Delicious! We split the spicy Tonkatsu Ramen. Also very good. Then had the spicy tuna and chefs assortment of 7 nigiri pieces. Excellent. Service was even better. Servers were very attentive, despite being packed. Highly recommend.

One of the best hidden treasures sushi restaurants on the island of Alameda.
At this posting, Omakase nigiri (10 pieces nigiri) for $52 or Sashimi omakase (10 pieces) for $48.
Good wine and sake menu. High quality sushi, unlike other sushi restaurants in Alameda.
Professional service with details.
Price value!

After reading positive reviews, we decided to try it, and our dining experience was enjoyable overall. The tempura was flavorful, although we felt the batter was slightly thicker than anticipated, overshadowing the vegetable flavors. The sashimi was exceptionally fresh and delightful, particularly the uni and ankimo. While the sashimi omakase was satisfactory, it did not stand out. The service provided by our server was excellent, and there is potential to enhance the overall ambiance for an even more enjoyable dining experience.

This sushi place undoubtedly ranks as one of the finest gems in Alameda. Our visit on a Friday night was serendipitous, as we were seated right away, although the line started to lengthen soon after our arrival at 7 PM. Timing, as they say, is everything.

One thing that truly sets this place apart is the freshness of their fish. Each piece felt like a testament to their dedication to quality sourcing. It’s that kind of commitment that elevates a sushi experience. But let’s talk about the tempura for a moment – it was nothing short of extraordinary. When the plate arrived at our table, I couldn’t help but marvel at the perfection of the frying technique. It looked, and tasted, unreal – a solid 10/10.

The combination of fresh fish and expertly prepared tempura made this dining experience truly exceptional. It’s no wonder the line started to build up as the evening progressed. If you’re seeking top-notch sushi in Alameda, this place should undoubtedly be on your list. Just be sure to arrive early or prepare for a bit of a wait – it’s that good! i

it was good until I had a piece of fish that didn’t taste fresh, it tasted old. I was feeling shy to say something about it. But I was encouraged to say something so I did. The server and other staff first replied with “we only serve the freshest fish”. I understood, but I wasn’t trying to challenge them. I really had a piece of fish that tasted off,I had to spit it out. They didnt check the fish or offer …something like, sorry and then remove the plate. They just kept saying how they have the freshest fish and proceeded to mansplain to me about their methods as if I was an ignorant person. I respect good cuisine and service. I’m a travel foodie and sushi is a food that I have alot of respect for in its culture, history and skill of choosing the right fish and preparing it. It is art to me, I am a fan of certain sushi chefs. This was my first time here and I was taken aback by the response. Otherwise the rest of the fishes were fine. Its a tough competition out here in the bay area, so many restaurants have connections to high quality fish that you can get more and even better cuts at the prices you will pay here or less.

TL;DR – Excellent selection of quality fish.

Hashi Gawa is a very good “middle-tier” sushi restaurant. They don’t serve mediocre sashimi and huge sushi rolls like lower-tier restaurants that cater to the masses. And they don’t provide a fine dining omakase experience. What you will get is excellent fish in a casual setting with reasonable prices.

We came on a Saturday as soon as they opened to ensure us a table. My wife and I ordered their “Omakase” 10-piece special. Please note that it’s not a true omakase experience. It is 10 nigri pieces (sashimi option also available) served all at once.

The kind waitress provided all the types of fish, but it was hard to remember the order so I wasn’t sure which piece was which towards the end. You will have a selection such as snapper, butterfish, salmon, salmon belly, otoro, chu-toro, ocean trout, scallop, amaebi, etc. We also ordered some extra single pieces to make sure we both had our favorites. One negative was each piece was glazed with a light soy sauce that I would have preferred not to have. The sauce masked the taste of the fish. Next time I’ll ask if they can hold the sauce.

Overall, I was very happy with our meal. I will go back for sure.

We got the Hashi Sushi Combo which had your choice of roll (we got California) and chef’s choice of 7 sushi. This combo was filling and had a good selection of sushi. We also got the Hashi Gawa roll which was ok. The dessert though was the highlight of the meal since that Chestnut Cake was good. Overall, nothing bad but nothing great either.

We had a nice celebration dinner, three item bento was a lot of food. Everything was tasty and priced appropriately except the salmon nigiri which was a miss… not as delicious as I’ve had in same area and price range. Service was quick but flustered by a full house, we went on Saturday so that comes with the time slot. Would try again after trying another location.
