Taste was good, but definitely needs more spice.
We tried the Quesabirria tacos (a little smaller than expected $4.50 each)
We tried the Birria quesadilla $15 (good size).
Has small outside tables, covered.
Plenty street parking.
The food came out quickly, and came here 30 or more minutes before they close at 7pm but definitely worth a try.
We caught up with La Cocina Del Abuelo #1 at the corner of Grand and Linda Vista in San Marcos, California.
We found a total of 6 food trucks in that location during our visit leading us to dub this spot the “Restaurant Row of Food Trucks in San Marcos.”
Their menu emphasizes “birria” dishes and offers a surprising number of items (including ramen and pizza options). In all honesty the burrito we sampled was of better quality than what most restaurants have to offer. Not surprisingly it was very fresh, but it was also quite flavorful.
Although many of their orders are to go, there are a few folding tables and chairs available if you’d prefer to eat there.
While the value was reasonable, don’t expect a bargain price because of their reduced overhead. Our burrito set us back 11 clams.
And that’s…Henry’s Take

I first noticed that this food truck set out tables and chairs with a trash can. I thought that was so nice & so was the girl taking the order.
A plus for me is the menu didn’t have a billion options.
Parked by the squirrels and crossed the street. Ordered the Abuelo Combo – 2 mulitas and 2 quesatacos. I believe maybe it was $15 or so dollars. And bought a bottle of water. Total was about $21. It came with lemon slices, sliced radishes, chopped onions, Cilantro, & a jalapeño.
Walked back to the car & ate and squirrel watched. First bite of the mulita was so delicious! It was nice and crispy. Added some salsa Verde as well but I guess it wasn’t that memorable. Took a bite of the jalapeño & man! Mi boca was on fire! The jalapeño was so real so I love them for that. The taco was delicious as well.
I was so full after eating the 2 items but I needed a Pink drink after eating. I think there was supposed to be 4 items but somehow there was another item, so I’m not sure if my bf ate the mulita correctly.
My bf thought the food was good as well. Watching the squirrels and giving them a radish really helped with the vibe.
I want to come here again and try the birria ramen. I think all should try this place at least once.
