Fast and friendly service.

Taste was good, but definitely needs more spice.
We tried the Quesabirria tacos (a little smaller than expected $4.50 each)
We tried the Birria quesadilla $15 (good size).

Has small outside tables, covered.
Plenty street parking.

I’m a sucker for birria ramen. And food trucks with a no frills outdoor seating area that’s shaded. It’s a cute little space and I went around lunchtime and there was plenty of room so that was perfect for me. It’s a comfortable seating area by a quiet street so it made for pleasant dining, although I’m sure most people take their food to go. I like the space here, so I like to sit and eat when I can. Especially getting their food fresh and hot it’s a real treat. Back to the birria ramen. I got the larger one the Tapatio ramen with birria. Omg it was tasty. Simple and delicious, hit the spot when I’m in the mood. Second time I came here, I got the birria bowl. I just like their birria it’s a classic taste and generous meat portions. Love the sauces on the side too. Classic birria can’t go wrong. Next time I’ll try the quesobirria I heard that’s pretty bomb too. Quick and friendly service, great food, nice outdoor seating with shade. What more can I ask for. Return customer right here ♥️

Got the Birria burrito and Quesabirria. Huge portions with a ton of meat. The meat was very tender and the flavor was good. I should have asked for a side of the birria soup/sauce it would have made the burrito perfect but I was too hungry. Definitely going to cke back and try the ramen pizza or the bowl!

The food came out quickly, and came here 30 or more minutes before they close at 7pm but definitely worth a try.

So I ran into this place by accident trying to get a last minute meal. Was surprised to find it’s location across from Costco along with two other food trucks. I ordered for my wife and child one quesabirria each to see if we liked it. And YES we did it was plentiful on the meat and flavor was great. Came with a cosume on the side to drink and dip the taco in. We ended up getting a second round and taking some to go. It is an external seating area with table and chairs. Alot of flies being it is out doors. If you are good with that this place was a “hit the spot” location. Look forward to coming again.

Exceptional case of quesabirria, not much else to say. Better than 95% of the Mexican food I’ve tried in San Marcos. More places need to adopt this business model. Less extensive menu but do your specialty well.

We caught up with La Cocina Del Abuelo #1 at the corner of Grand and Linda Vista in San Marcos, California.

We found a total of 6 food trucks in that location during our visit leading us to dub this spot the “Restaurant Row of Food Trucks in San Marcos.”

Their menu emphasizes “birria” dishes and offers a surprising number of items (including ramen and pizza options). In all honesty the burrito we sampled was of better quality than what most restaurants have to offer. Not surprisingly it was very fresh, but it was also quite flavorful.

Although many of their orders are to go, there are a few folding tables and chairs available if you’d prefer to eat there.

While the value was reasonable, don’t expect a bargain price because of their reduced overhead. Our burrito set us back 11 clams.

And that’s…Henry’s Take

I have NEVER eaten a burrito this good. I got a birria burrito. It was scalding hot and giant. Giant! It was so good. U didn’t even need the salsa bc it was so moist and the lady was so wonderful. Thank u from someone who hasn’t been able to eat much at all. Thank u so much!

Was waiting for my bf to be done with an errand and this food truck popped up on Google for what was around me.

I first noticed that this food truck set out tables and chairs with a trash can. I thought that was so nice & so was the girl taking the order.

A plus for me is the menu didn’t have a billion options.

Parked by the squirrels and crossed the street. Ordered the Abuelo Combo – 2 mulitas and 2 quesatacos. I believe maybe it was $15 or so dollars. And bought a bottle of water. Total was about $21. It came with lemon slices, sliced radishes, chopped onions, Cilantro, & a jalapeño.

Walked back to the car & ate and squirrel watched. First bite of the mulita was so delicious! It was nice and crispy. Added some salsa Verde as well but I guess it wasn’t that memorable. Took a bite of the jalapeño & man! Mi boca was on fire! The jalapeño was so real so I love them for that. The taco was delicious as well.

I was so full after eating the 2 items but I needed a Pink drink after eating. I think there was supposed to be 4 items but somehow there was another item, so I’m not sure if my bf ate the mulita correctly.

My bf thought the food was good as well. Watching the squirrels and giving them a radish really helped with the vibe.

I want to come here again and try the birria ramen. I think all should try this place at least once.
