The food from that first visit was just average. The wings had a burnt exterior, which was surprising considering how quickly they were supposedly cooked, but my wife still enjoyed them so we didn’t think too much of it. The sweet potato waffle fries, on the other hand, were more chewy than crispy, which wasn’t what we expected. On our second visit we switched to regular fries, which were better.
The main issue, and the reason I’m writing this review, is that during our second visit, one of the chicken wings was raw on the inside. My wife took a bite before realizing it, and now we’re left worried about the possibility of foodborne illness. She’s had wings from probably 50 different places over the years, and neither of us has ever experienced something like this. It’s especially concerning because she was eating while watching our son.
Customer service hasn’t been great either. Mainly over the phone, the staff sound like they’d rather not be there, and in person there really isn’t a big difference in tone but you are at least ackowledged.
To be fair, the burger we got was actually decent, the bun especially helped carry it, and while the prices felt a bit high for such a small town, I assume that’s largly due to the location and operating costs, so I can understand that.
I wasn’t even planning on reviewing after the first experience since it was average and i didnt want to effect the overall rating, but receiving undercooked chicken on the second order is something I genuinely can’t overlook. It’s disappointing and unsafe, and I hope the kitchen takes more care moving forward.
Overall, it’s still probably the best choice for standard American food in the area, assuming everything cooked is safe.
The entrance to a restaurant is the first impression that people will always remember! It is a way to make your costumers feel comfortable and welcomed! It prepares costumers for what is inside and on the table! Failure to execute that, you may miss an opportunity to convince people that what is inside is also good!
Many good restaurants have closed because of failing to understand that!
Bottom line is; a restaurant can have average food but if it delivers a warm welcome, clean floors, vibrant lighting and clean bathrooms, there is no reason why a restaurant should fail, not at all!
We ordered a pretzel with beer cheese, chicken wings, chicken tenders, two bar pints, and two beer bottles. Our bill was more than I expected it to be for the quality of food we received.
The chicken was the most disappointing for what it cost considering they were not homemade but frozen and fried. My husband felt the wings were also over priced for the quality. The French fries were good as was the pretzel, which was most likely premade frozen and baked.
I personally think the drinks are overpriced, no bar menu, the only wine they had was a bottle in the fridge and the waitress did not know what it was.
The atmosphere is noisy, it is a sports bar of course, the staff was nice and attentive.
So what do I think of this place? If you are wanting good fresh ingredients cooked food, this is not the place for you. It is a limited menu. Sadly they could probably make more money with better fresh ingredients, but they make a killing on their drinks so they are probably not too worried about it.
If you are wanting that noisy fun bar vibe and drinks but don’t mind overpaying for just ok food. This place is fine.
If you are wanting fresh not frozen ingredients there is a better restaurant that can provide that across the street.
Overall for what this place is, it’s just ok.
The topper to this experience was the Tavern Burger, which was grilled with the perfect char and served on a fresh potato roll with crisp cold lettce, tomato, and pickle. This really let me know how fresh it was and not sitting under a heat lamp. Hats off to the kitchen team for your timing, especially being it was a 6-top of guests. This will be a definite stop every trip to Lake Eufala. Well done!!
