I visited this restaurant on the very day it reopened — perfectly timed, thanks to the thoughtful help from our hotel host who assisted with the reservation.
From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere harmoniously blends traditional charm with contemporary elegance. We started the evening with wine and conversation in the cozy library lounge, sipping two lovely whites:
•Pagodes de Cos, Saint-Estèphe 2022
•Cos d’Estournel, Saint-Estèphe 2018
Alongside, we had a soft-boiled egg topped with caviar as an appetizer. While the taste wasn’t a revelation for me, the generous helping of caviar made it feel indulgent and elegant.
We then moved to the dining area for dinner.
STARTERS
•Semi-cooked foie gras from Maison Biraben, shallots chutney, clementine gel
•Scallop carpaccio, maraîchère vinaigrette and daikon
Both starters were excellent, especially the foie gras, which was a clear highlight with its rich, silky texture and perfectly balanced sweet and tangy notes.
MAIN COURSES
•Chicken supreme, peas, “poulette” sauce: The chicken was surprisingly flavorful, tender yet bouncy — far from ordinary. The sauce tied everything together beautifully.
•Monkfish medallion, carrot purée with curry, curry sauce, and toasted pine nuts: The fish itself was fresh and well-cooked, but the curry-style sauce felt a bit familiar for me as someone from Asia — more common than unique.
We paired the mains with a Pagodes de Cos, Second vin de Cos d’Estournel 2011, which was smooth and deeply enjoyable. I hadn’t known much about Cos d’Estournel wines before, but they’ve definitely found a place in my heart now.
DESSERT
To end the meal, we had a beautifully plated chocolate dessert (unfortunately I didn’t catch the name). It featured multiple textures — rich mousse, crunchy bits, and a smooth chocolate sauce that tied it all together, topped with what looked like a cocoa-dusted quenelle of ice cream. Decadent and satisfying without being overly sweet.
Final thoughts:
The evening was a perfect welcome to the region — great hospitality, elegant ambiance, and thoughtfully prepared food. While not every dish was a personal favorite, the overall experience was warm and memorable.

une fois notre déjeuner terminé, nous avons profité du jardin, pour un café relax dans les canapés à disposition. Un petit coin jeu charmant est à disposition des enfants sur la pelouse pour un temps calme. Le service est élégant, attentionné et sympathique
Dès notre arrivée, j’ai été sous le charme du lieu.Et lorsqu’on est entrés dans le restaurant, nous avons été chaleureusement accueillis . Un feu crépitait dans la belle cheminée, et nous avons été installés coté bibliothèque pour l’apéritif. Toute la décoration est raffinée, les canapés et fauteuils très confortables.
Après ce moment qui nous a permis d’admirer l’ensemble de la pièce, et de faire notre choix dans le menu, nous avons pu rejoindre notre table.
Les mets ( poulpe /thon rouge en entrée, suprême de volaille / magret , puis dessert de figues /millefeuille ) , présentés dans de très belles assiettes, ont ravi nos papilles. Quant au vin(second vin du domaine d’Estournel), c’était un véritable nectar , accompagnant magnifiquement ce repas délicieux.
Le service, le cadre et la cuisine sont irréprochables.
Cette expérience restera longtemps dans nos mémoires.
