The sandwiches were out very quickly once ordered and they hit the spot. Both were tasty. The chips are a bag of Wise potato chips, not very fancy. The coconut cream pie is worth trying, very creamy and delicious.

This place is great!!! The food hits the spot just right (good flavor and light but fills you up well). The servers were very nice. We ended up eating here multiple days for lunch while working in the area.

Loved this place. Don’t be fooled by the front, the inside is very clean and cozy. I had a loaded potato ans it was awesome and very filling. Service was surprisingly quick and very courteous. They were very accurate at taking and filling your order even when you have special requests. The food tastes fresh and I think the dressing was made there.

I absolutely LOVE The Hattie! I just started eating chicken salad last year and had tried it at a few places. It was okay. But then I tried it here and wow!! I regretted never having come here to eat it all of these years. It’s truly AMAZING! It’s a simple recipe and not overpowering. Pair it with a soda and chips and it’s the perfect combo! I love it so much and can’t wait to go back and get another! Definitely check out this hole in the wall spot in Covington, VA!

Congrats, you just found the best place for lunch in Covington, VA!
Food is fresh and most items home made. I had a trip to The Courthouse and was found guilty – guilty of enjoying it! My wife enjoyed a baked potato with mozzarella draped bacon.
Great ambience in an 1800’s house, friendly staff, and more than reasonable prices.
Eat here soon, and often!!!

Great small town lunch spot. Had a great soup and grilled cheese, and delicious dutch apple pie. Great prices too!

Reasonably priced sandwich shop that was formerly a home. Wonderful “homey” atmosphere. Menu varies slightly seasonally. A little better signage out front would be beneficial.

We stopped here for lunch while we were sightseeing. Our sandwiches were all delicious!! I had the courthouse sandwich. It was so good!!! Our waitress was amazing! She let us know all of the specials and made us feel absolutely welcome. She was amazing. The atmosphere was very comfortable. We loved sitting and reading all of the little signs on the walls.

James Burke House is a quaint lunch-only place occupying a old brick home. The menu and specials are lunch-oriented, including mainly sandwiches and salads, and a few special dishes like quiche. Prices are very reasonable. Not elegant but the surroundings have a certain charm and the food was delicious. Definitely will return when I’m in the area around lunchtime.
