Amazing udon!!! The broth was so flavorful and light. The shrimp tempura was perfection. Definitely one of the best udon i’ve had, felt very homey. Staff was so sweet and welcoming! Please try this place!! Highly recommend

Most delicious Udon in Oahu. The noodles are “Yawamochi”, thick noodles with an elastic, soft, chewy texture. Unbelievably delicious! The tempura is also a must-do item. We enjoyed the Katsutoji curry udon and the Gobouten Udon with the tempura “A Set” (shrimp, chicken, sweet potato). Overall 10/10!

Decent udons with good texture on the noodles and pretty tasty soup base. I like this place’s udon much more than the overly sweet udon soup at the very crowded Marugame in Waikiki. We also had the oyakodon, which was very good. We also tried its mushroom & zucchini tempuras, which were okay, but quite pricy for the quantity.

Parking is free for two hours, but you must register with Parkwhiz. It is also a self-serve establishment, meaning that you have to put away your dishes, which I didn’t know that before tipping.

Great Udon and service. The dashi sauce is one of the best I’ve ever tasted, they definitely did not skimp on the ingredients. The noodles were nice and chewy like mochi and the dashi sauce was packed with flavor. A nice cold bowl of udon in the 90 degree weather is such a blessing. Love this place!

I visited Udon Gama-dashi with coworkers on a Friday for lunch. Since it wasn’t too busy, we were able to get a booth without a wait. My initial impression was that the ordering process was a bit confusing. The sequence requires you to first find a seat and review the menu, then go up to the cash register to order and pay. You’re given a buzzer to let you know when your food is ready for pickup.

They use a self-service bussing system; after you finish eating, you take your tray to the back of the restaurant, near the restrooms, to drop it off.

The restaurant serves Hakata-style udon noodles with a variety of options at a reasonable price, very similar to Marugame. We all enjoyed our dishes. I tried the regular Niku Gobouten Udon. The udon and broth were delicious, but the beef (niku) was a little chewy, and I wasn’t a fan of the tempura gobo. However, the tempura soft-boiled egg was a delicious addition. My coworkers also enjoyed their meals.

The atmosphere was clean and spacious, making it a good spot for small groups and families.

Overall, it’s a solid restaurant with good food and reasonable prices. It’s a great option for a quick, affordable meal that won’t hurt your wallet.

I went in to try and the donburi. I’ve never gotten to leave Hawaii for 30 years of being here my whole life. So i appreciate when people authentically try to emulate their cultures in food here as best they can.

The flavor of the gyodon rice bowl with egg was great. Light amount of salty with only a tad of umami and lots of savory simplicity.
I was so impressed I tried the Niku udon. And I don’t even really eat udon. Often too big and starchy regarding the noodles.
You can tell their dashi is pronounced and the noodles are apparently yawamochi. The most pleasant soft texture ever. Was highly surprised and ate it all.
And they give you loyalty stamp cards?
Oh no for me

If you’re tired of the generic, franchise-tasting udon like Marugame, this place is a game changer. Udon Gama-Dashi offers a much more authentic, soul-warming experience. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by super friendly Japanese staff, and the clean, cozy vibe instantly makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a small shop in Japan.

The broth is rich and delicate, the noodles are perfectly chewy, and everything tastes like it’s made with genuine care. It’s not just food—it’s a cultural experience. I’ve been to plenty of udon spots, but this one stands out for its quality and authenticity.

If you’re in search of real Japanese udon that doesn’t feel mass-produced, this is the spot. Highly recommend!

Super happy with the experience and food here!

Ambience: Super cute, clean small shop with friendly workers, very reminiscent of Tokyo shops. Very easy to park with parking lot right outside. It is kind of a weird service model. They brought us a menu but we had to go up to order and pick up our own food and put our own tray away.

Food: We decided to share a bowl since we had just eaten at Ono poke & we were so full but after we finished we wish we had more because it was so good!! We got the regular size cold udon that has chicken tempura, grated daikon, lemon, and green onion and a side of shrimp tempura. The noodles were nice and thick and had chew without being too soft. It was our first time trying cold udon and it was so refreshing. The broth you pour on top was nice and cold and had good flavour that coated the noodles well. The lemon added a nice refreshing zing to it.
Tempura: they were made fresh to order so it took a bit of time, but they were both hot and crispy and a great contrast to the cold udon. The chicken tempura was white meat but it was so juicy!!! Although it was lacking flavour. Definitely had to dip it in the sauce otherwise it was too plain. Shrimp was delicious although small.

Overall if you were to compare to Marugame, I’d say this shop is a higher quality & more authentic udon shop with a wider variety of options however it is a bit more expensive and would take longer to prepare. I do think they need to change their service style and decide what kind of restaurant they want to be (quick fast food or formal sit down service).

Walked out a tad disappointed. Udon noodles were too soft for us. The light broth was a nice change from heavier ones but it lacked depth. $20 katsu don was thin, hard, flavorless. Having visited Japan many, many times made our palettes stricter. But we truly appreciated the “from Japan” staff and their hospitable service. Yes, gobo tempura was the best part.
