After always driving by Madremaiz today I had the privilege to sit and eat there. WOW. My experience was amazing, it started from the moment we got out the car, the smell was consuming. I didn’t know how hungry I was until I read their vast food and drink menu. We did end up choosing the carne asada torta and birria fries, btw they should add loaded to the name because they are. It was a treat stopping by we were fortunate enough to get details on everything I love to ask questions. Thankfully they have such a great welcoming customer service, once I tasted our food I felt at home the food tastes so fresh. The cleanliness is something I admired as well, wherever you looked even if you peek into the kitchen all you’ll see is structure. Even though I was made feel right at home I understand it’s still a business one in my opinion is being ran uniquely well. As a customer I felt proud and grateful for this experience I’m sure the team keeps this energy on for everyone that comes by. Thank you very much. No complaints here, only admiration.

The street tacos were great flavorful tortillas soft meat not chewy. The special arachera though for its price i dont recommend i had a harder time chewing that taco down for the price i would want it to be tender and easy to chew. Flavors were great a bit salty but i wouldnt be shy to get it again if the meat was tender. The shrimp taco was worth trying definitely was a favorite just pricey but definitely good with a balanced flavor & the shrimp was cooked perfectly not rubbery at all. The salsas were also good. Red maybe has more spice but very mild. Green is more lime flavored also mild both are delicious. Chef special tacos which was the shrimp and arachera 9$
Street tacos 3$
I recommend the street tacos cant go wrong with those.

Silvia, Mike and the rest of the staff are super friendly and accommodating. The tacos especiales are served on blue corn with melted cheese, with the carnitas being particularly tasty. The birria torta is packed and served steaming hot on fresh bread. The food quality matches the price, and everything always comes out fast. Ask for the secret sauce if you’re looking for something spicier. They also have house-made (off-site) wheat flour and corn tortillas. Haven’t tried the corn tortillas yet, but we regularly get a pack of the wheat tortillas for our tacos at home because they are quite fresh, chewy and tasty.

Where do I even begin!!! The service was great, the vibe was great, I got my food quick, and of course the food was absolutely delicious. I asked them what protein they like the best and they recommended me the birria and boy did it not disappoint. It was so juicy and flavorful. I got their especiales tacos on the blue corn and it was worth every cent. I also had their grilled shrimp taco and wow, just wow, absolutely amazing. I can’t wait to go back and try more things. But one thing is for sure, this is hands down the best true authentic Mexican cuisine in Pasadena!!!!!!

Mexican food is my absolute favorite and this place has me HOOKED! I first tried it 3 weeks ago and I can tell you’ve been back at least 6x or more since then and I live in 25 miles away! I have had their chicken street tacos, and their chicken burrito, as well as the guacamole and everything is fantastic! My son has had the birria street tacos and he said their are the best he’s had hands down! The meat is authentic and marinated to perfection, the flavor is undeniable and so juicy! The size of portions is perfecto! They don’t skimp on anything and the cost is excellent! I love how clean they are being mindful to wear and change gloves after every order or if they go to cashier they don’t use the same gloves they just handled money with. The place is kept clean, the workers are friendly and they are not stingy with the sauces! I’ve met Mike and Nora and they are wonderful! This is my spot and I have no problems driving here to satisfy my Mexican food cravings! My son said he could live off of their food and so could I! I was just there on Sunday and I will be there today! If you are looking for some Mexican food done right that will hit all the spots your taste buds desire, Madre Maiz is the place to go! My name is Mesha and I stand by this review 10 toes down! There’s no other place I want to go to for Mexican food…They WIN!

Stopped in after a hike for tacos but leaned towards Birria Fries and an Esquite Cup, both were very good. the birria fries were prefect to grab and go and made a perfect meal. The Esquite was excellent and had flavor in every bite, the grilled corn and lime was a nice touch. Of course, Every order needs a Jamaica and this hit the spot. My only critique is the consomé was a bit too salty but everyone has a preference in consomé so I’ll leave it up for everyone else (I STILL FINISHED MINE THO) loved everything I’ll be back here often and will recommend this place to everyone on the trails. Great atmosphere and good music taste from the staff! 10/10

We used to go here weekly when we had swim lessons in the area. Excellent mexican food spot. It was always a safe bet for our kids – they loved the burritos and they are picky eaters. Potato tacos are excellent too. Nice staff too!

I ordered a carne asada wet burrito and let’s just say it was mostly beans and rice , also salsa was salty.I didn’t want to complain because it’s not my style, but I personally didn’t like it.I also tried my daughters tacos de asada and to me they were not good .I have had much better from a taco truck..Birria had no flavor I told my daughter the birria I make is better. I came here with my grown children so I tasted a bit of everyone’s order and well let’s just say it wasn’t good. And man behind preparing food I think looked miserable ..He is rude not even a smile.

Dry meats. False advertisement of handmade tortillas. They are blue store bought tortillas. The Gordita was just two store bought regular tortillas with cheese, like a quesadilla, not an authentic handmade gordita. To top it off, the salsas were flavorless and stingy, in tiny little cups.
I suspect they use reheated old meat , not fresh.
Carnitas are suppose to be fatty and moist , not dry with some chilorio sauce so they can reheat left over meat.
I had hope for the asada, but it was also lacking in flavor and dry.
The birria meat was dry, the sauce it comes with was ok, and the cheese helped
Horchata flavor was good, creamy but a bit sweet for me. It’s the only thing I liked with plenty of ice.
