They take far too long to prepare orders. I watched them carry my sushi base all around the kitchen before placing it on top of the rice cooker wires, which didn’t seem very hygienic. Also, the shrimp tempura had barely any shrimp in it — it was mostly just fried batter.

If you’re looking for great Japanese food at an affordable price, Sarku Japan is the place to go. Located in the Food Court at Westfield Montgomery Mall, it could be mistaken for just another fast-food stall, but it isn’t. The food is always fresh and excellent. My go-to is the chicken teriyaki with vegetables and white or fried rice (fried rice is optional and has a minor fee), and veggie spring rolls on the side. The entree portion is always enough for two meals, so I’ll have it for dinner one night and lunch the next day. The veggie spring rolls are perfectly crispy and delicious. The staff is very efficient and keeps everything moving. A few things to note if you haven’t been to this Sarku before: If you need a plastic bag, ask for it when you order at the beginning, as you won’t get one at the end. Also, it’s important to maintain your place in line after you order because the chefs line up the carryout boxes on the counter, place the food in the boxes, and then it’s up to you to know which order is yours. And the very last item you’ll get is your spring rolls, which come out of the pot very hot, crispy and fresh. A stop at Sarku is a must anytime I’m at Westfield Montgomery Mall!

The line was very confusing. After I ordered both a teriyaki bowl and sushi, I wasn’t given any guidance on where and how to get the sushi. I walked over to the sushi counter and they pointed in one direction but it was not clear. Eventually we got the sushi after another customer and I were both unsure about where to wait for our sushi order. We finally got our orders after just standing around. The food tastes okay for the price, but the service could be better.

I ordered 4 chicken shrimp Teriyaki meals, each with extra chicken for lunch for my workers today. There was an evident shortage of chicken for the last one box as it run out of cooked chicken. The employee said that he would make it up when the next round of newly cooked meal is ready. However, he evidently forgot to add and also started to show bad attitude when I reminded him. I almost come to order lunch every week and am very family what is the right portion for extra chicken. This employee has a bad attitude.
