Wanderful Living
Why anyone would choose to eat at Jimmy John’s when there is a Potbelly around the corner nearby is baffling. Even so, I baffled myself by visiting here today around 4 PM.

Taking the B line downtown, I saw a very dejected looking homeless woman and struck up a conversation. I offered to buy her a sandwich, and since Jimmy John’s was closer than Potbelly, I went for what was easier for her and her baby carriage.

She stayed outside with her stroller while I went inside to explain I was going to pay for her meal. I couldn’t be inside with her while she ordered, because someone needed to watch her stroller.

I was the only customer at the counter and for a fleeting moment, I didn’t think the kid behind the counter was even going to help me, since he was so involved with his phone. Luckily, right before I had to get assertive, he decided to interact with me.

I explained the situation and he refused to let her into the store telling me I would have to order for her. He didn’t want to encourage the homeless to hang out in their restaurant. He said she could eat outside. Well, there were no tables outside and anyway, I had just told him we needed to watch the baby stroller. She wouldn’t be eating inside.

Completely stumped these words were coming out of his mouth, I assured him I, a short, solo woman, would never offer to dine with anyone tweaking or unstable.

He eventually relented and she got to order her own meal with dignity. But he refused to give her a paper bag to put the food it in as is customary for to-go orders.

Lord almighty young man. People like you are the villains in movies.

I’d refused to eat at any Jimmy John’s since finding out 10ish years ago that the owner chooses big game hunting in Africa. Now I dislike this chain even more.

Never will I ever step foot inside another Jimmy John’s. Especially this one.

Go to Potbelly! It’s amazing.

Bad service. Unwelcomed. Unbothered. I went in at 5pm on a Tuesday, there wasn’t a posted hours sign so I went in to ask if they were open since it was a bit dimmed lighting and they had some of the stools up. A male worker was behind the counter, on his phone. Rather than answer my quick question, he held up a finger to hold. After a few moments I left and went to chipotle instead. I checked their hours online and they don’t close until 7pm. I found a review from last week and they seem to have encountered the same male employee who was on their phone.

Okay the delivery for this location is not perfect. I don’t appreciate not receiving emails or texts saying that my delivery is on the way or is delayed or anything. I would appreciate it if you would improve this because I have been waiting for a delivery and it hasn’t come at the time I requested.

This Jimmy John’s location supposedly closes at 5pm. Today is Saturday 1:47pm in the afternoon and this location is closed this is the second time I’ve been here and it’s just magically closed. Will not be returning here ever again

We walked in with over 30 mins to close which is at 7. The staff was okay but the manager Matt, (according to our receipt) was awful. He gave the employee grief for taking our order which was only a Chicken Caesar Wrap. He made our wrap which was missing ingredients, slapped together, and smaller than usual. He turned the lights off in the restaurant as soon as we sat to eat our wrap which only takes 10 mins or less so we had to eat in the dark. He proceeded to give every customer attitude that came in after us and turned them away even though they still had a half hour to close because he was cleaning up. Was extremely rude to everyone and showed no customer service at all. We went to fill our drink cup and he started cleaning the machine so we couldn’t. Seemed to have gotten irritated that we threw our wrapper away in the trash as well. I work retail and understand you want to get out as quickly as possible after close. But this was unacceptable and we will never be ordering from here again.

Also, you’ll see right after my review, the owner obviously doesn’t care because they immediately had someone giving this an employee a glowing review.

After many years of ordering from this location for my work events, my TWO HOUR WAIT for a catering order deserves this scathing review. I placed an order the day before for 3 half sandwich boxes and a separate sandwich, for a total of over $200 including tip. I made sure to choose an early delivery time to avoid my food being too late for my event. I placed the order to arrive at 11:15, with my event starting at 12:15. After waiting for delivery until almost noon, i called the store where i was told they were running behind and my food was being finished up and they would head out soon. So i waited in the lobby for the food to arrive. By 12:25 there was no sign of anyone so i called again, and this time a different person picked up and i was informed my order was just sitting there and it could not be delivered because they had a lot of online orders, a long line, and only 3 people on staff. They asked me if i would just like a refund. I did not, as i had a group of people waiting for the food that i had prepaid for and confirmed. The person puts me on hold and never takes me off. At this point, i am making repeated calls to the store with no answer. My boss then begins to make calls to the store, where she is told they are waiting for a third party to make the delivery and only when we threaten to come pick up the delivery, she is then put on hold where no one is to respond again. We again proceed to make a dozen calls to the restaurant between the two of us, with them just flat out ignoring our calls. As we are head to her car to drive to the store, finally, my boss gets through to the manager where he insists he will personally deliver the food and give us a refund. After another 20 minutes, he finally shows up on a bicycle, offering no apology or humility about the last TWO HOURS of events, including the behavior of his staff. My job is a mile from the restaurant, and we have ordered from there before so there was simply no excuse on ways to prevent such a massive delay like this. Finally, at 1pm, after my event had wrapped up, was I able to feed my guests. Absolutely UNACCEPTABLE from any business. Please, look elsewhere for your catering needs, AND STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT!

The staff can’t handle the lunch rush. I’ve been waiting for over 20 min for my #2. There was no communication that there was going to be a wait. I had to ask what was going on. Not to mention how painfully slow the staff makes all the sandwiches. First time I ever had anxiety attack waiting on a sandwich to be made.

I work close to this Jimmy John’s and the food is usually pretty good but the wait time is ridiculous some days. I like to do online orders cuz I only have a 30 minute lunch break. There are several times I have done online orders but have had to wait like 10-15 mins after my pickup time for my food to be ready. Which is a major bummer since my lunch break is only 30 mins. I understand that this Jimmy John’s location is short staffed but the management needs to come up with a better system when it comes to online orders. Some of the employees have even been rude to me when I asked how long it will take since I am on my lunch break and have limited time. This Jimmy John’s location also needs a better system when it comes to customers picking up online orders. There have been several times I have waited at the Pre-Order Pickup window inside the store and it takes an employee sometimes 5-10 mins to even acknowledge that I am even there when my food is ready. It can be really frustrating when I can see my order ready behind the pickup counter and I can’t even get it since I am waiting for an employee. I know it can be tough for a busy when they are short staffed but bad customer service and long wait times shouldn’t be something that continues to happen for months. My online order for today was supposed to be ready at 11:30 am and wasn’t handed over to me until 11:47 am. I shouldn’t have to wait an extra 17 mins for my order. I also never got an apology from the Jimmy John’s employee. Would have been nice to hear “so sorry for the long wait and we appreciate your business”. I am not even saying they have to offer me a free menu item for the long wait but this place does not know how to run an efficient business. I love Jimmy John’s sandwiches but after today I will no longer be coming to this location.
