I don’t know how any of the dishes are remotely inspired by Italian, French, & Spanish cuisines. Our Big Meatball spaghetti was…weird. The meatball looked good, but when we took a bite, the texture was too soft, almost completely breading with an overwhelming rosemary flavor. Rosemary seemed to take over the other main entree, a bland “Spanish” steak smothered with undercooked/overcooked vegetables, including horseradish-y (?) Brussels Sprouts, mushy broccoli, carrot sticks, & Delicata Squash, etc.. But maybe I was still tasting rosemary from the meatball. The bed of polenta needed salt & less grease. The salmon chowder soup of the day tasted lukewarm & blazing hot in spots, with stale to semi-coherent croutons, as if reheated in a microwave.
The tomato sauce, overdressed, on the meatball grew on me, but could’ve eased off on the wine/vinegary taste.
FYI, we aren’t going to complain about the food to the server. Most people don’t want their dining experience to be unpleasant — for anyone. It’s not her fault. That’s what reviews are for, to let others know what to expect.
They presented drinks I asked for before arriving upon seating us. The floral and sour drink had an adorable flower and presentation along with great flavor.
The Carbonara, Chicken Parmesan, and steak are all bold with flavor and extremely well-balanced. I highly recommend this excellent restaurant for a date night, anniversary, or other special occasion.
Salmon entree was good
The sausage pizza with hot honey left ALOT to be desired. I’m not sure there was even an ounce of meat on the pizza, very little cheese. Dough was well cooked and good – not soggy. Picture is of our leftover dough since there were so little toppings – sad
The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for a date night or a relaxed dinner with friends. Service was attentive without being overbearing, and the staff clearly knows the menu and wine pairings.
If you’re looking for classic Italian done exceptionally well—great pasta, great wine, and a cozy, upscale-but-approachable vibe—Rustica is a must. We’ll absolutely be back.
