The River Oak Chophouse is a superb dining experience.
From the greeters, and kitchen staff, to the Bartenders and waitresses. Entire staff does a fantastic job.
Just a couple of appetizers,
Flavors were exceptional. Also had a jumbo shrimp that was ideal.
With the Beers and mixed drink selection from the bar you will find that one drink that you will use to compare others to in the future. Call for reservations, or chance a couple of chairs at the bar.
Make it a point to stop and enjoy.

It was me and the wife’s anniversary so we decided to treat ourself. We went here without a reservation, but they made a spot for us outside. The table was small and flimsy but it worked.

So the food was really good, our waitress Emily was very prompt and attentive. The truffle butter was amazing, as was the horseradish sauce.

The flat stone plate was really neat, but the juices run off it easily and got all over my pants lol.

The price is pretty high, for my wife, my daughter and my self the bill was around 250$, it was 300 after the tip.

IMO, it’s definitely worth the experience, the food is very good, the service is excellent but the prices seem a bit steep. But we would go back again if we are ever in Madison.

We have been wanting to go here for some time, and finally got the chance – we loved their other restaurant in North Vernon, and we were really sad when it closed. The new restaurant is also excellent, we enjoyed everything, from appetizers to the specials to the dessert. Service was top notch, very attentive and very helpful with all questions and requests. And I don’t think a glass was ever more than half empty! Prices are high, which sets the expectations on the food quality to match, but I feel they easily delivered. Can’t wait to go back again!

I had the pleasure of dining at River Oak Chophouse in Madison, Indiana, and it was an exceptional experience! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a rustic-chic decor that set the tone for a great meal.

Our server, Cody, was outstanding – attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. He helped us navigate the menu and made excellent recommendations. The food was outstanding – I had the steak, which was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. The sides were equally impressive.

One thing to note is that they do charge an extra $5 for splitting a meal, which was a minor surprise. However, the generous portion size made it well worth the additional fee.

What really stood out, however, was the service. Cody checked in on us frequently, refilling drinks and ensuring everything was to our liking.

Overall, I would highly recommend River Oak Chophouse to anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience in Madison. The combination of great food, excellent service, and cozy atmosphere makes it a must-visit.

Pros:

– Outstanding food quality
– Attentive and knowledgeable service (shoutout to Cody!)
– Cozy and inviting atmosphere
– Great selection of bourbon and cocktails

Cons:

– $5 extra charge for splitting meals (but generous portion sizes make it worth it)

Tips:

– Make a reservation, as this place can get busy.
– Don’t skip the dessert – it’s a game-changer!
– Ask for Cody for exceptional service.
– Be prepared for the extra $5 charge if splitting a meal.

Had an amazing evening out at River Oak. The service was incredible. Everyone we interacted with was welcoming and attentive. The food was even better than anticipated based on other reviews. We were especially impressed with the Crab and Potato appetizer, and our entrees (16oz Sirloin and Chophouse Burger) were also delicious.

We took a day trip to Madison from Indy ended up being two days. Our 44 wedding Anniversary was Oct 10 th. Celebrated by having dinner at the River Oak Chophouse and it was great. Both cuts of steak were cooked to perfection served on a thin slab of black stone sprinkled with sea salt. Fabulous presentation and the taste was excellent. We would go back for the food and atmosphere. Materdee ,wait staff and bartender all were there for you. Drinks, sides, and main course about fifty bucks each plus tip…Special occasion special place.

We visited for our first time yesterday. Parking was easy to find and free. Atmosphere was perfect. The Bar Tender Brandon knew the menu front to back. We started with a shrimp appetizer. Sea-bass was delicious. Drinks were perfect. Will definitely be back. Very clean establishment.

As a foodie and former restaurant owner who has traveled the world, I found the menu very strange and overpriced. We had a steak with a grapefruit butter topping. Never in my life have I tasted anything so odd and tough. We also had the seafood pasta dish with a spicy vodka sauce and lemon. I have no idea what this dish was trying to be, but it just tasted like a peppery broth. The lemon was terrible in it! I feel like it was missing cream or something. I do hope they rework the menu with better food pairings that actually work together and higher food cost items to justify the high prices. I feel the service was a bit slow. Just getting a glass of water prior to anything seemed tough. I don’t understand why restaurants have dropped their standards. Drinks need to be at the table in under 3 minutes.
