Food is absolutely amazing. I went twice this week—once to treat my work team and then again on Sunday to take my wife. Seriously, this is how food should be done.
Yes, I agree, it’s not some fancy, newly decorated spot, but it is a comfortable and welcoming place with fantastic food that more than makes up for the lack of frills. If you prioritize incredible flavor and a good, solid meal, you need to go here.

First visit here, definitely my new local favorite. The lady’s are kind and fast, the food was hot and fresh and full of flavor. Never had hot water bread before, it was good much like a hush puppy. Most importantly the cost of a lunch plate and drink is cheaper than a pack of cigarettes

Found this Soul Food restaurant off the beaten path of I-20. I was so excited to see what it was like since I haven’t eaten at a Soul Food restaurant in a while. It’s refreshing to be able to get what is actually advertised. The food is amazing and prices are reasonable, when you leave your hunger is satisfied. The food is delicious and reminds me of the food my family cooked back in the day before fast food took over.

The service was so down-home and friendly. The cabbage and green beans were spot-on. The hot water cornbread was a little packy but still good. The fried chicken could have been seasoned a little more but was delicious dipped in my green bean juice. The gravy was bland (typical cafe gravy). I’ll definitely go back.

We always look forward to coming on days we don’t feel like cooking. The dressing and green beans and hotwater bread was delicious, but I don’t know what was going on with the macaroni and cheese today. The noodles were not soft and it was bland. Please work on it, or get the usual person that cooks it, make it…no experiments please.

My first time here, if you’ve read other reviews, this is a pretty popular eatery. I had fried chicken, rice and gravy, lima beans, turnip greens and hot water bread and it was all delicious. It was a lot of food for me, the portions were generous, almost more than I could eat but I seemed to manage. They had only one selection for dessert, a carrot nut cake, I believe, with cream cheese icing and it was wonderful. This is a buffet style serve and it moves fairly quickly, they started serving shortly after eleven and I was out the door with two plates by twenty after. A little of a drive for me but I’ve been wanting to try this out and I was definitely not disappointed, well worth the drive.

We ordered 2 plates and they put the two entrées in the same box. They did not give us the other 3 sides. The macaroni was not good.

Love this place. When I first walked in the door I saw a teenage boy with a bucket and towel cleaning the tables. I mean he was putting some elbow grease into what he was doing. Everyone there was so inviting and friendly. This place has some of the best hot water cornbread I’ve had in years. It was crispy light and fluffy at the same time. The rest of the food was amazing too. Everything I ate was seasoned perfectly. The beef tips were awesome. The cabbage was great. Real down home cooking for a great price. Please visit sometime.
