Food of CT
While visiting Helen, we chose to stop into Heidi Haus because of its Polish options. The ambiance wasn’t what we were expecting, but we decided to stay because the guy working was friendly. While the food was tasty, the service was a little tough because they apparently had a few call outs, so we didn’t get offered basic things like water, and he said he was going to bring over sharing plates but never did. As someone who’s Polish, the pierogi and stuffed cabbage got my seal of approval, but the kielbasa on the pierogi platter could have been better.

We ladies needed to find a bite. Since this was an option in the heart of it all, we went and immediately sat. That’s what we did. Sat. We sat and waited. We waited while we sat. We almost left and regret that we didn’t.
It was 20 minutes before we were greeted with menus. There was one elder woman running the place by herself. Taking orders, cleaning tables, cashing out, drinks. It was crazy.
15 minutes later we placed our order. 5 of us. We kept it simple. Platter for 2, chili hot dogs for 3. 2 light drafts, 1 dark draft and I had already had my cup, Thankfully!
The food came out and it was nicely presented. It was good. It was fresh. It was nothing to write home about.
Now to pay. Instead of the waitress taking our cards and ringing us up one by one, she instead came back to the table 5 times with 1 bill each time to grab a card. I paid with cash to make it easier but dang.. that was a lot more just sitting..
We will not visit again to the Heidi Has. I do not want to go back… if you read this far, please know it is a sauna inside. It is hot! At 51 outside and 88 inside.

Stopped in for a late lunch and sat at the 4 seat bar area. It was a really interesting vibe – a small little spot upstairs near the main beer garden area had Jay-Z, Macklemore, and DNCE jamming through the little space. As others say the pierogi and kielbasa were solid choices, and the staff was friendly.

We stopped in here for lunch Saturday and it was delicious!! I had pierogis and sausage and it was some of the best I’ve had!!! My husband had the pyzy and loved that. It’s perfect for a lunch time stop. The restaurant is tucked in an upstairs suite, so I’m not sure about wheelchair accessibility.

It was my first time in Helen. I came for a break. I saw it was called “European food” and thought it must be good. In fact, I got food poisoning, not to mention the taste was terrible.

Some of the best food around! Dont miss this place. I had the pierogi platter! Amazing!! Our server was the kindest soul. She even gave us adults fun pink plastic straws. More ac would have been nice. But no complains overall.

Naturally, sharing the same name with the establishment, I had to give it a try! It’s a small cafe/restaurant located above one of the souvenir shops in the heart of Helen. I ordered the pierogis, sausage and the Jäger schnitzel, which were all made to order. You can hear the chef pounding the pork in the kitchen so it doesn’t get fresher than that! Everything was delicious, fresh and appropriately portioned. When the owner found out my name was Heidi, he gave me a free beer, which was very nice of him. We spoke to the owner (who is also the chef) who gave us a background on where’s from and how he came to plant roots in this adorable German town. 5 stars all around!

We absolutely loved our experience here. It isn’t your “load em in and load em out” kind of place. They make all the food fresh. We could hear them banging out the schnitzel in the back. So yes if you want it to be quick then this isn’t your place but if you want really delicious authentic fare then don’t miss it. We have 2 different schnitzel and the perogies and all of it was delicious. The staff is very welcoming as well.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ THE MOST MAGICAL POLISH EXPERIENCE IN HELEN! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you only eat at one place in Helen, make it Heidi Haus — this charming little gem tucked upstairs in the heart of downtown blew me completely away! From the minute you walk in, you’re transported to the cozy alpine eateries of Eastern Europe, with warm service, delicious drinks, and culinary craftsmanship that deserves Michelin-level applause!
Culinary Highlights (Prepare to Drool)
✨ Pierogis – These are arguably the best pierogis I’ve ever had outside of Warsaw! Perfectly handmade, pillowy, and bursting with rich potato and cheese goodness — truly the star of the show.
✨ Jäger Schnitzel – Tender, perfectly breaded pork cutlet with that authentic Central European flair. Every bite was mouth-watering and golden crisp.
✨ Kielbasa & Sausage Platter – Smoky, juicy, and paired with tangy mustard — this sausage is next-level.
✨ Pyzy – Fluffy potato dumplings that are comfort food perfection.

The food was delicious and service was excellent. The cook was nice enough to make me a regular Schnitzel and nice salad. Even though we waited a little while the meal was worth the wait and authentic since I am originally from Germany. Looking forward to returning and trying more items on the menu.
