Wonderful service and food. A very relaxed atmosphere, we were seated immediately. Chef Noah was very polite and kept a good conversation the entire time, all while providing excellent food cooked to our satisfaction. Very sanitary, and polished. Customer value runs high. 5/5 would definitely put this on my travel itinerary.

I’m an avid review reader and based on previous reviews I was really expecting a horrible experience. This was not the case. The staff was absolutely amazing. They explained everything we needed to know about their transition under new management and provided excellent customer service! Matthew, our chef, is one of the best I’ve had the pleasure if dining with. The food was seasoned well, cooked just right and nicely portioned! I would definitely recommend this place under this new management!

This was my family and I first time going to Sumo. Prior to selecting this place, we read the reviews and was very skeptical about eating here. We also read in the reviews that it was under new management. Therefore, we decided to give it shot. To my surprise, the service and food was phenomenal! You can really tell the staff and owner are trying to turn the place around. I would give this place 5 stars if they were able to serve alcohol. The caveat to being under new management is everything such as new liquor license has not been completely transferred to the new owner. However, the staff did take the time to explain this to us, which I commend them for it. We were also told renovation would be underway soon due to the outdated appearance. Matthew was our chef and needless to say, he was quite exceptional. If you’ve been here before and was dissatisfied, I recommend giving it another shot.

Don’t know what’s up about all the negative reviews, but my family and I love this place! We’ve been there so many times they know us now. Food is delicious, cooks keep you entertained and we always have food to take home. Yeah sometimes we have to wait longer than other times, but from personal experience working in restaurants it happens… especially when you’re short staffed. If I could rate Sumo’s more than 5 stars to make up for those negative reviews I would.

I know this restaurant is under new management, but I have to say, my visit the other day was one of the least pleasant I’ve had. I ordered no vegetables and extra rice, and it came out with veggies and rice. Also, there is a chef there who, bless his heart, I know he’s a nice guy, but good gracious is he loud! We weren’t sitting at one of the grills, we were just at a side table, and I must have jumped at least five times. Now, I know that the hibachi grill shows are going to be loud and boisterous, and we’ve sat at his grill before…but even when he was done cooking, he was still banging stuff on the grill. It was just a little too much…a little too loud.

Me and my group of friends went to eat here before prom well the service was great but not so much what we heard behind the wall. The owner decided that it was okay to yell the f word at one of his employees and the whole restaurant heard then walked back out like nothing had happened. Our waitress ended up making $30 off of us because employees should not be treated that way. It may be a long time before I ever go back in there.

The servers and the chef were all extremely nice and pretty patient with us in all our glorious insanity. The cook even tried, at my suggestion, to catch a piece of broccoli in the indentation in the top of his chef’s hat!!! It was awesome!!! We all enjoyed the food and the times we shared!!!!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. We waited for 30 minutes and a party of 8 came in and got seated and ate and left before we even got our drinks. Service was pathetic. George the owner cooked for us, told him it’s our first time there and we were from Aiken, and it was terrible, George tells us to take our asses back to Aiken. The food was greasy and white sauce disgusting. THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST $90 I HAVE EVER SPENT FOR FOOD. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.

Praying I don’t get sick from the order I just placed! If lines weren’t wrapped around the building of surrounding places to eat I would have left! The entry way is disgusting! Doesn’t look like it’s been swept in a while and my shoes were getting stuck to it. The seating area had crumbs all on it. The girl that helped is super sweet though! The guy in the back was having a good time singing his song with profanity! Hahaha!

When the previous owner ran this location, we always had issues with them closing earlier than the posted time. Since the new owner they cleaned up a good deal, and service seemed to
Improve. However, tonight we arrived at 9:32pm with a posted closing time 10:00pm. The door was locked. There were still patrons inside (fire code violation?) but it was clear they were not still open.
Sad when local business can’t stay open for posted hours for regular patrons.
