Nori is a Sushi bar/restaurant in the heart of Old Saybrook. Offering an excellent interior decor, wonderfully friendly staff and of course high quality fresh Sushi. Coming in for lunch I was kindly greeted and sat by a server immediately. Inside is a wonderful design blending modern and traditional feeling within an extremely cleanly atmosphere. The menu features some unique fusion dishes along with M/P Sushi specials such as Shima Aji, Kinmedai, Ōtoro, CA Uni, A5 Wagu and more. I ordered a Hot Green Tea, 16pcs Sashimi Dinner, Kinmedai, Shima Aji, Uni and Ōtoro Nigiri. As well as a Sashimi of the Ōtoro and a Uni Handroll. The Sashimi was excellently fresh, cut into proper thick slices and all displaying wonderful colors and texture. Large Santa Monica Uni, melt in your mouth Ōtoro, perfect moist Sushi rice, crisp Nori paper and sweet pickled ginger left little to none to complain about. Some of the friendliest staff and Sushi chef I’ve met it was a wonderful experience. Overall it the only negative I could possibly draw would be the prices are a bit higher than most “Sushi restaurants” but the quality of the food and the experience was far superior. Overall 8.9/10 excellent food and service, on my list to come back during dinner hours to try the Omakase.

A great sushi find in Old Saybrook! Very fresh, beautiful presentation, and excellent value for the quality. The Spicy Lady Roll Rainbow Sky Roll were standouts. Paired with a Croatian rosé and finished with a rich mocha cake—the friendly service made the whole experience feel magical. Bravo!

This is the second or third time we have had lunch or dinner at Nori and has been excellent. My wife is a vegan and I am not so finding restaurants we can both enjoy a meal is difficult. I ordered 1 uni nigiri, miso edamame soup and 16 piece sashimi entree pictured. Uni was super fresh. Not a fan of the miso edamame soup but it was different and tasty and the fish portions were excellent. Took what was left home and ate it the next day. Yummy! I want to send a shout out to our server Jay. He was outstanding!

The place was cute. I had the sushi and I thought it was really fresh and great. My bf had the lobster and shrimp combo. It’s a Japanese place with some fusion to it. The lobster dish has some Thai flavors to it. It was just ok. The fried rice…..well, didn’t taste like normal fried rice, lacks some flavor. Gyoza was fine, can’t really crew that up. I will certainly go back to give it another try for sure.

It was our first visit and we loved it. We shared spicy edamame, Lover’s Roll and Fire Island Roll. Everything was delicious. Our waitress Stephanie was great and attentive. We had a cozy booth to ourselves. Neat new age music at the right volume. Will definitely return.

I will start the review by saying that prior to going in on opening weekend I almost cancelled our reservations after seeing the pictures of the menu that someone posted (they had just opened and their website didn’t have a menu yet). The prices were eye popping. But my wife and I decided to go on with our plans.

You are greeted right away and we were quickly taken to our table. We had tea and sparkling mineral water to drink and were enjoying the major facelift this building had. It is quite nice inside.

We started with kani salads and although it didn’t have spicy mayo like I am used to I can say that was the best kani salad I have had. I would go back there and get two as a lunch by itself because it was THAT GOOD. Highly recommend.

The next course was the Yellowtail Jalapeno and it was phenomenal. The freshness of the yellowtail was abundantly clear upon first bite. Presentation was beautiful. Highly recommend.

We then ordered our two sushi rolls (we were on a budget because one roll alone was $35)- The Spicy Salmon Roll and the Surf and Turf Roll. The Spicy Salmon Roll at $12 was good, fresh, and the tempura flakes used being larger created quite a nice crunch. But the STAR was the Surf and Turf Roll and for $35 it better be!

With that said, the Surf and Turf Roll is amazing, the best single bite of food per piece that I have enjoyed in quite some time. Shrimp Tempura, asparagus, A5 Wagyu beef, and actual truffle pieces on top of each piece of the roll. It was presented beautifully, tasted amazing, and was worth every cent of the $35 price tag.

For me, this will not be a place I go to on a whim but rather a planned special event with my wife and family. But my experience with Nori was exceptional, I highly recommend you trying Nori (and if you don’t like sushi they had quite the expansive menu of non-sushi items and meals- their Chilean Sea Bass for $38 or the Lamp Chops for $36 sounded amazing and was around the same cost as the one sushi roll- Surf and Turf) and don’t be put off by prices right off the top. The prices for what we had were warranted, we would go back, and I give Nori one of my elusive 5 Stars out of 5. Excellence.
