We had dinner at Kiri Thai last night and were absolutely blown away. This family-owned restaurant delivers the kind of authentic Thai flavors that instantly took us back to our travels in Thailand. Every dish was beautifully balanced — light and fresh, yet full of depth and complexity.
I ordered the local mahi mahi with green curry, and it was perfection — tender fish in a silky, vibrant sauce with just the right amount of spice. My partner had the pineapple curry with pork (since they were sold out of mango), and it was equally delicious — bright, comforting, and layered with flavor.
As a double win, they have 4 different local beers from Ola Brewing on tap! Best beer we’ve had in Hawaii…. Ever.
Our server, Maya, was incredibly gracious and kind, even though we arrived about 40 minutes before closing, right after what looked like a busy dinner rush. She made us feel completely welcome and never rushed.
It’s rare to find a place that combines authentic flavor, fresh local ingredients, and such genuine hospitality. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Kailua Kona!
Can’t wait to go back and try other dishes on the menu!
The food though? Let’s get this straight. I was blown out of the water. The larb had a wonderful spicy and tangy flavour to it. The ground pork was perfectly cooked and the herbs added beautiful Thai overtones.
I’ve never had anything like it before!
We also had the crispy duck. Perfectly crispy and ultra juicy. The sauce was a tad sweet but also savoured in umami.
The Pad Kee Mao was exactly what I had expected based on the other orders. Purely delicious. Definitely worth the $5 squid add-on, as they piled the dish with the protein!
We also had the mango sticky rice at the end. Tasted like other Thai restaurants in Canada, so therefore, a perfect recipe!
Overall, we’ll definitely be back. Loved it here! Such a nice break from all the other touristy foods I’ve had lately!
The food was just ok!! I’ve had lots of Thai food, and this was definitely not the best! I could have eaten mine and been ok with my experience, but my biggest issue was, my oldest son got food poisoning! We where never asked wether we liked our food as is fairly customary! When someone leaves there plate full of food, you would think you would be asked wether you liked it or not! Nothing was said! We said nothing due to trying to be nice and not cause an issue! But after experiencing my son projectile vomiting and dry heaving all the way home and being sick for two days, I was compelled to write this review! Hopefully this is the exception and not the rule! The staff was nice! ♂️ ♂️
We walked in about 15 minutes before they were about to close. We kindly asked if they would still serve us and the staff member was incredibly kind. She said “yes of course, we don’t want you to leave hungry!”
She sat us down and told us not to rush ❤️
We started with the shrimp summer rolls. So so delicious. It came with 2 dipping sauces, one was peanut based and the other was fish sauce based. We loved it.
Then we ordered chicken larb—ground chicken with spices, lime, fish sauce and ground rice on top of chopped romaine. It was really refreshing and seasoned very well. The flavor was fantastic but he wished the lettuce wasn’t chopped and instead like “cups” that he could scoop the larb into and pick up to eat. Otherwise it was top notch.
I got the massaman shrimp curry.. WOW. This blew my mind. The flavors, spice level, and shrimp to veggie ratio was perfect. The jasmine rice on the side soaked everything up and made it that much heartier. If you don’t have anything else, I highly recommend this dish.
Thank you again for a great experience and delicious food. We live on Kona and will definitely be back!!!
