Friendly service and home cooking. Tried the smothered green chili burger. Not bad but, could have been more meat chunks and mixed the thickener better but, not bad. Will probably be trying it again next visit. Also wished the gift shop was open. Tried to go there twice Friday and Saturday but, both times closed. Hence the reason for 4stars.

Very friendly service. Good tasting, large portions. I ate here about 6 years ago and enjoyed it enough that I wanted to eat here again this trip. Still just as pleasant this time around. If you enjoy small towns with friendly people and good quality and value then stop here for a meal.

We, being my mother, my father, my kids and I, visited for Mother’s Day this year. We walked in and were immediately met with dirty looks from the wait staff. They told us to sit wherever we wanted, so we sat by the door.
After our drink orders were taken, we were promptly ignored. Our first waitress never came back without so much as a word, as if we had offended her somehow by saying thank you for our drinks. I tried to ask for cream for my coffee, but we were waiting for another waitress for a solid 10 minutes before she noticed no one had taken out order or gotten to us.
After our order was taken, we didn’t see the waitress or our food for roughly an hour; in which time, we noticed that all of the silverware on was dirty, the cook/chef did not have a hair net of any kind, and the waitress continually ignored our table in favor of 3 others. 2 other tables that came in half an hour after we did, left before we even got our food. I’ve never had such trouble trying to get someone’s attention before.
I may have been a bit more understanding if they were busier than they were, but there were no more customers than usual there, especially when we got there. We specifically chose the Ponderosa and arrived early so that we wouldn’t have to wait but that was a bad idea. We won’t be going back.

Our daughter and her family recently moved to this area and we spent a week helping them move in. We ate several times at the Ponderosa and everything was delicious – especially some of the best bacon ever! Our son-in-law loves the breakfast burrito with green chili. One of the best things about the restaurant, however, is the friendliness of the staff, their attention to special requests and the great sense of community you find there. We’ll be going back often to visit our kids and know that we will be welcome and remembered the minute we walk in the door!
