My friend and I showed up after dinner looking for a bottle to purchase & take home. We walk in & were greeted by the bartender Lucas. He was kind & explained that we could purchase a bottle to take home. He also explained that if we wanted to open the bottle in the establishment, it would be an additional $15. No worries on our end, as we just wanted to snag a bottle & head home.
So we peruse for a while & head back to the bar to ask him for a recommendation. He chooses a bottle for us & we decide it’ll work. My friend says something along the lines of “but how do we know if we’ll like it?” Before I can even respond, he slides us two glasses, cracks it open, and pours us both a glass. I said “well, we wanted to take it with us & now you’ve opened it….how is that going to work?” He shrugs it off. Fine.
After he walks away to tend to other customers, he comes back with our bill & what do I find? The extra $15 for opening a bottle in the establishment. AFTER we had reiterated serval times that we intended to take the bottle with us. When I brought it to his attention, he insisted that he’d told us about it. Yes, he had. Which is WHY we’d agreed to choose a bottle & go home with it.
It was HIM that decided to open the bottle against our wishes to “try” and give himself that additional $15, on top of the tip my friend had given.
Not a good look. We felt taken advantage of. Would pass on this place.
It appears the owner was eating chicken near the front door after taking my card and check but never brought it back. He continued to eat chicken next to the front door without giving card and check back after processing.
If I was a customer, the first thing I don’t want to see is something eating behind the counter. Especially when you charge $24 a glass (the wine was worth it but doesn’t align to a culture that so unsophisticated that they eat at the entrance of their own establishment).
I doubt I’ll be ver come back. I will not recommend this place. I want love places to succeed but when they do not deliver I cannot enforce such a slow, incompetent and disorganized established.
Such a shame.
