Welcome to The Northern Cafe & Motel. We are located in the heart of the beautiful Northwoods, right on Highway 51 just north of Minocqua, in Arbor Vitae, WI. We are open year-round for the summer enthusiasts as well as snowmobilers, skiers and those looking for a quiet getaway. We only have 4 rooms so it’s almost always quiet here. The Cafe is a local and visitor favorite, serving all the classics, such as omelets and our award winning biscuits and sausage gravy. We also offer unique favorites like our Homemade Corned Beef Hash, Chuck’s world famous Monster Italian Sausage, and Chris’ made from scratch soups.

Got the eggs Benedict special. On a biscuit with ham. Little different, lots of sauce, but good. If you like crispy hash browns this is your place!

Awesome breakfast, wait was a little long but definitely worth the wait. Had to have been one of the best pancakes I’ve had.

Nice little Northern Wisconsin Cafe. Everything they make is homemade, including their hash, which is excellent. Friendly service

My wife and I stopped for Sunday breakfast today. The place was busy, with people waiting outside, but it only took us 10 minutes to be seated by the owner…nice guy. He recommended the homemade corn beef hash and also their special smoked sausage. We had both and it was delicious. Eggs were as we ordered…over medium….I don’t know why so many places can’t do that….they always come over easy. The food was very good but could’ve been a little hotter. Coffee comes plentiful. Excellent sour dough toast.

Haven’t stopped here for breakfast in a few years, but today we did and are we happy we did!! Service was excellent, breakfast was the best in the Northwoods! Prices were more than reasonable for the food you get! We even purchased a loaf of homemade sourdough bread ! We will definitely return again and again! Thanks for a great.breakfast! If you haven’t been here, you must try… you will not be disappointed!!

First off I almost left because even though the table had been cleaned it was still dirty. Seemed inconvenienced when I politely asked if they could wipe it down again. I got an eye roll and a big sigh. The food was pretty good 7/10 but nothing that blew us out of the water. Our server was good 8/10. What really was annoying though was hearing the owner gossiping with some people at nearby table. The owner and the person were both super negative and it made our experience suffer. It was really uncomfortable hearing them gossip about someone who was not there to defend themselves. If not for that I would have given it 4/5. Atmosphere matters and negativity really bring an experience down.

Small, cozy, fun, friendly great service! Be patient! Sometimes you can’t get what you want as fast as you want! Go to a drive through if that’s the experience you want! The food is exceptional!!! Breads, cheese, eggs that stand up with freshness! Cinnamon bun… Omg good! You’ll love them and their food!

I have not been here for 20+ years and hubby has never been here. I ordered 1/2 biscuits/ sausage gravy and hubby ordered biscuits/ gravy platter. Biscuits are awesome. Gravy on the other hand was not so good. Was very thin and seemed to be broken down and I am wondering if it was left over and thinned down since they are closed from tomorrow to 12/11. Hubby said potato’s were ok, they are potato’s and eggs were eggs. Biscuit was good but sausage gravy ranked a 4 on a 1-10 scale. Maybe our experience since they will be closing for 8 weeks…I do want to add our server was excellent and service was great.

I drive there from Minocqua on a Thursday morning expecting to have breakfast or lunch around 11 am. When I arrived, the waiter inside told me they closed early today. They normally close at 1:30 pm she said and didn’t give any explanation. Besides, the driveway from Hwy 51 is a challenge when entering or exiting this property. I didn’t eat food here under the new owner/management and will give them an average score for food. However, for service and atmosphere they get the lowest rating possible from me. There are better restaurants closer to Minocqua to visit where I can spend my money and not waste gas money driving here and will cross Northern Cafe & Motel off my list.
