Donuts & Deli Coming to Downtown Little Rock

They had a few fruit danishes that looked really good. Most of the cinnamon rolls looked too overcooked for us so we didn’t try one of them. They will make a hot breakfast items, which sounded good, but they’ll have to work on the speed to be able to feed enough people to keep the doors open. We saw them make a sandwich for someone and it took forever. That’s probably just a growing pain type thing that I’m sure will improve.
The most disappointing thing, for a place with Donuts in the name they didn’t have a single thing that my kids would identify as a donut. Several pastries, some cupcakes, some muffins, no donuts. I’d come back and try some of the other things they have, but if I’m craving donuts I’ll just have to hope someone else picked some up on the way into the office.
It is a little pricey but you are supporting a small business and someone who has served our community as a firefighter.
Congratulations on a great deli.
The holes donuts had potential but the insides were undercooked (I liked the crispy outsides).
I also had a breakfast sandwich and it was very thrown together (looked and tasted like a not quite to the level of a waffle House breakfast sandwich, i.e. waffle House would have been preferred) (I’ve made some super great breakfast sandwiches at my home that would have it to shame).
Coffee was also just super basic coffee, like the kind would expect to pay 75¢ for but costing $2.
The donut was nice and crispy on the outside but slightly undercooked on the inside. The blueberry was icing, decorated on top of the donut, which was saturated with oil or butter when I bit into the donut. It also a horrible presentation. The guy put it in a plastic container on top of parchment paper, using parchment paper to pick up the donut making the icing spread out on the parchment paper.
Now, the reason I won’t be returning to Donuts and Deli is the fact while we were waiting on our food, the gentleman that took our order took out the trash after we sat down. I will go ahead and add that it was the only trash can in the restaurant. When he came back, he grabbed a couple of dirty baking sheets, and took them to the back. He came to get other dirty dishes, and touched some clean ones, rather than asking the cook if they were dirty. He preceded to take the dirty dishes to the back and then came back, ran his hand under the faucet for one second, not even using any soap (I only wish I was exaggerating), and dried his hands AND THEN BROUGHT ME AND MY BOYFRIEND OUR FOOD!!!! HOW DISGUSTING!!! The food was so greasy I had to wipe my hands off after every bite. the sausage was the only thing that gave my biscuit any flavor.
There’s only one coffee cup size (a starbucks venti) and the atmosphere is extremely odd It took me a minute to understand why there was an air tank hanging on the wall and three fire hoses on the ceiling. They have made a poor attempt to make the atmosphere seem like a firehouse. The seating is a bit odd also, chairs and tables align the hallway-like place.
As a retired police officer’s daughter, I do appreciate that a portion of what people purchase there goes to support our local service men and women each month. I only wish their service, food, and atmosphere would honor them as well.
