Decent restaurant having a rough night(?) Gobi Pakora was delicious. The coating was light and crisp, the dipping sauce was full of flavor and the cauliflower was the perfect doneness. The Biryani, Gobi Aloo and lemon rice were not good, with the standout entree being the Paneer Tikka Masala. They ran out of chicken (not uncommon in off-season), some of the food was cold and we weren’t sure what to do with the raw vegetables (sides??) that were placed on the plate without being properly prepped. Unpeeled carrots and sliced peppers with seeds and veins were a little off-putting. The Biryani had huge chunks of uncooked carrots and an odd, tart flavor we couldn’t place. The texture was mealy and completely unappetizing. The lemon rice was undercooked and cold, but seemed to have a nice spice profile. We would have liked the Gobi Aloo but there were so many cardamom pods it was tough to weed through them and I️ ended up eating a few – it’s like eating soap. The Tikka wasn’t bad, but after eating Indian Food all over the world, it tasted like canned sauce. Not inedible but not as tasty as we are used to. I hope it was the fact that we were the only patrons and that it was off season. The chai was delicious and our server was sweet although totally unpolished, but we didn’t have high hopes for that. I️ don’t know if we’d go back but wanted to let other diners know what our experience was.

My SO and I came here after doing the North Crestone Creek trail. We were ravenously hungry and would have eaten anything…or so we thought.
We ordered pakora, butter paneer (with chicken) and aloo gobi (with chicken). The pakora was soggy and tasteless. Incredibly, despite the tremendous range of flavors that exist in Indian cuisine, both of our curries were bland. A previous reviewer likened the curry to “tomato sauce right out of the can”, and I find this description apt. The chicken had apparently been cooked several days earlier; you could definitely tell when you got a meat bit because they desiccated your mouth as you bit into them. About a third of the pieces were burnt.
The basmati rice was acceptable, the lemon rice was not (the only thing lemony about it was the color). Their “naan” was thick, and heavy with a pinch of garlic lazily sprinkled on top. For those picky about authenticity, the naan had been fried on a flat top instead of baked to fluffy perfection in a wood-burning tandoor.
As if to get a second opinion, we offered pieces of this chicken to a stray cat that wandered nearby. The cat seemed interested at first–it could tell that it was supposed to be food. But after one or two bites the cat lost interest and wandered away.
The stray cat’s reaction summarily describes our experience with Ramji’s Indian Cafe: even if you’re literally starving, this food is not worth eating. Who knows–maybe you’ll find a dead bird or something instead.
As someone who detests food waste, it brought me physical pain to discard 80% of the food that we ordered. But the pain wasn’t worse than choking this down.

our meals were both undercooked and overcooked, depending on the bite. the potatoes and rice tasted old and reheated, then slopped messily onto our plates. we each only ate a few bites of our dinners and let the server know, but she still charged us the full amount. we paid the full bill plus tip (because sometimes it’s just not worth the hassle) and then we went and got excellent tacos right across the street. maybe just start with the tacos!

If you are reading this review before going to eat at the restaurant, then consider yourself lucky. We weren’t so lucky. This was by far the worst Indian food we’ve ever had. The Tikka masala sauce tasted like tomato sauce right out of the can, and the aloo mutter had very few peas and was dry and bland. The worst offense was that the roti was deep fried and tasted like an elephant ear without the sugar and cinnamon. The one redeeming factor was that the lassis were good.

Extremely disappointed. Worst food I’ve ever had.
After a day of hiking, my friend and I were starving and wandered in for dinner around 5:30pm. The restaurant was completely empty—our first red flag. We were seated promptly in the un-air conditioned dining room and given lukewarm glasses of water. Our waitress (the owner?) was loudly teaching a new server the art of upselling in the back near the kitchen. While I understand the need to train someone for their new job, it wasn’t the nicest atmosphere or conversation to listen to while we decided on what to order—especially when our waitress came back to try to upsell us.
My friend ordered the parathas and I had the aloo gobi. I’m not a picky eater–especially after hiking all day–and this was the worst meal I’ve ever had. My aloo gobi was covered in a thick spicy sour brown sauce unlike any aloo gobi I’ve ever had and some of the potatoes were undercooked. It was served with lemon basmati that was inedibly dry like it had been sitting uncovered all day and sad raw slices of unpeeled carrot and zucchini that looked like they had been cut several days ago (and sadly, probably the best part of my meal). My friend’s parathas were doughy and bland and the only way he managed to choke them down was with the chutney (not to mention we were charged extra for another small cup of chutney). Everything was under-seasoned with salt and barely edible.
The mango lassi was the only decent part of our meal.

Wonderful meals. Good dairy free and vegan options. Everything we got was absolutely delicious. Very calm laid back vibe and simple style. Great spot in downtown crestone is easy to find and conveniently right by the grocery store. Best food I have got in the valley easily! If you are in the area, you should really try this place.
