Everything was good enough for a casual, lakes-side dining experience. Staff was cheerful and attentive. We ordered burnt end salad and tacos, Lobster Lui salad. Home made potato chips, sprinkled with Old Bay, were tasty. Unfortunate they were out of sweet tea (7pm on a Saturday?!?) and I had to sweeten my tea with artificial sweetener at the table, also, not attractive having a rat trap on the top step to the door of the upstairs dining area. Still some growing pains as they’ve been open about a month.

We visited Coasters at Smith Mountain Lake for their soft opening and were blown away! Our server, Grace, was outstanding — friendly, attentive, and on top of everything, making sure we had a perfect dining experience.
The Buffalo chicken dip, shrimp nachos, Huli Huli burger, and lobster bisque were all fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The atmosphere is inviting with that perfect lake-town charm. For a first day open to the public, everything ran flawlessly. Highly recommend and can’t wait to return!

The staff did a great job! We were greeted right away and were seated within 10 minutes. We received our appetizers before we received beverages, but our server was running. I enjoyed my shrimp tacos. They were a bit in the bland side, but I don’t use cocktail sauce, so perhaps other customers would use the cocktail sauce and think the tacos we well seasoned. Prices were reasonable EXCEPT for charging $9 for about 3ounces of wine. No exaggeration. I will skip the wine next time.

Pros: location and food
Cons: our whole experience !
At arrival the just said she just needed to clean a table, waited over 30 minutes.
Once seated and drinks were ordered, we received one of the two teas we ordered and the waitress later returned and stated she couldn’t find tea bags ti make more.
( although the tea was on our bill)
My friend asked for a plate and was tossed a French fry boat and told this was as good as it gets. ♀️
When offered the sides for our entrees there was no mention of an up charge for certain things. When the bill arrived we had a $4 up charge for Mac n cheese each person. Management is totally missing the mark with this great location!!! Unfortunately we won’t be back.

Cold Food and Billing: My wife and I ate at Coasters on Sept. 20, 2025. We had to wait for a table longer than told, but we expected that. The staff we encountered were friendly and busy. The beer was cold and good. When the food arrived, 45 minutes after ordering, it was cold with the fries colder than my remaining beer I had in my glass. When the bill arrived, I was surprised to see the entrees that as presented by the waitress, “came with one side dish” had the side dishes as an extra charge. Even the cheese on the burger, that the menu clearly stated came with “your choice of cheese”, cost extra as well. The menu or waitress said nothing about the about the “extra” charges and when asked, the response was basically that is the way the management does it. Very disappointing and goes to the credibility of the ownership and leadership of the establishment.

An evening at Coasters was truly the worst dining experience I have ever had. We were told the wait for a table would be 15 minutes. One hour later, we were finally seated. Not once, but twice. The first table was a 6-top. We were told they needed our table for a group of six people that arrived after us, but they had an empty table for four around the corner. Twenty minutes later, we were served water and were told the wait staff would be there to take our order momentarily. Twenty minutes after that, they took our orders for two beers, two of the Flounder Fish Tacos, one of the burgers and one of the Burnt Tips Tacos. We waited another hour for our food to arrive. All of it was ice cold. ICE COLD!!! It was all colder than the air temperature outside. How is that even possible?!? I went over to the bar and demanded to speak to THE manager. The wait staff arrived promptly and said the “Big Man” (yes, they really called the manager by that name) was upstairs and wasn’t available to talk to us. I announced I was not going to pay for any of our meals. They said fine, they understood and hoped we would visit another time. We got up, tipped our waitress $20.00 and left. We had to navigate our boat in the dark back to our dock, 30 minutes away.
I have worked in food service before; I understand this is a new place and they may have some growing pains. But what got me the most upset was the lying about wait times – for our table, for our food which was inedible and possibly dangerous by how long it sat out before being served. They took away our option to make an informed choice about visiting on another night when things might have been less hectic. We only saw four separate people who were seating customers, waiting on and clearing tables. If I was employed there, I wouldn’t go back for my shift on Saturday. Coasters is hosting an antique boat show on Saturday and Sunday. I wonder how people are going to be treated and what they will have to say about this restaurant. Seriously, don’t bother ever going there. There are other choices around the lake. Coasters is just a time burglar.

To start off, we get there by boat. They said wait was going be 35 min. OK.. We ended waiting an hour. Waited another 2 hrs for food. 2 peoples burgers were OK. Our friends burger wasnt cooked all the way. My nachos said cooked with ho made chips. Come to find out they were potato chips. I thought they meant tortilla chips. They were burnt and hard. Really bad. The waitresses were all young. They were wearing Shorts way too short. OK I know its summer but they don’t need these men looking at them a certain way. Sorry but we will not be returning.

Decent atmosphere, below average food. Couldn’t tell if there was any fish on the tacos. The salsa and sauce overpowered it and taco wrap wouldn’t hold together. If I went back I would opt for the burger but this will be it for us for 2025. Chips terribly salty. Oh well. We tried.

This is THE VIBE! Food was amazing – the shrimp on the shrimp nachos were grilled to perfection. The shrimp was naturally sweet and plentiful- they did not skimp out at all. The lobster bisque….wow. You’ll have so savor every bite…just *chef’s kiss* It’s definitely going to be one of my go-tos when we come back. The service was phenomenal. Our server was friendly and attentive. 10/10 and highly recommended. We can’t wait to come back and try eeerrryyyyyttthhiinngggg on the menu!

This place is basically Drifter’s but with a better location. The food is very good and there’s a lot of options on the menu. The host was very accommodating and everyone I met seemed very nice and friendly. I will definitely come back soon.
