Just One Opinion
So, my wife and I have driven by this place hundreds of times, going back and forth to town and home. We have commented to each other, wondering what the Ham Stand was all about. Finally, just a couple of days ago, we drove by and Googled the Ham Stand.
Today, on my way home, I was driving by and decided, what the heck.
Once inside, I was greeted by a lovely lady who turned out to be the owner, Rose. As we were talking, I just happened to notice several monster chocolate chip cookies on the counter. After being told they had just come out of the oven, I informed Rose that one of them was coming home with me.
I got the Gobbler turkey sandwich. I chose a white bread roll instead of the standard rye bread.
I brought it all home and shared it with my wife. Both of us were extremely impressed with the quality of the ingredients, especially the bread and turkey.
The cookie was fantastic, too. It was warm and crisp, full of chocolate chips.
I read some of the reviews here where folks are complaining about the price. Yes, it is more expensive than Subway. But the quality of what you are getting is so far above a Subway Sandwich, it isn’t even close.
Subway has gotten very expensive now, so the Ham Stand isn’t that much more. And, the old adage, “you get what you pay for,” couldn’t be truer if you are complaining that the Ham Stand is more expensive than Subway. It is a totally different eating experience.
Give it a shot, the food and Rose won’t leave you disappointed.

Overpriced. The sandwiches are good, not super big, but quality meats. Atmosphere…not the best. Sort of a counter culture grunge hangout for local drifters kinda vibe. To be clear, it’s just a shack with no seating inside. Some picnic tables outside. The issue is the price. It’s just a deli. Not a restaurant. Yet with tax and tip yiur paying $25. For a sandwiches. Bratwurst $12. For a sausage. Drinks, sides, chips, etc. Similarly overpriced. $4 for a can of coke that I grab out of a refrigerator? Really?

I finally went here..june 2nd..see receipt. I wanted to give it 5 stars but the roast beef sandwich for over 19 bucks was way too expensive for the product. It does not come with chips or soda. No inside dining but there is some picnic chairs to sit on outside.

There was alot of hype..unfortunately it did not wow me. One side of the sandwich was thick and the other half was about half as much meat. I do like that they have some really nice cheeses and salamis. I did buy some chorizo sausages..hope they turn out good!

No beer or wine is available. Friendly employees.

I hope they do well in Nevada City….

Awesome sandos! Good value for high quality food. All the staff/leads are sincerely friendly, especially Kevin. Get the special of the day. You can’t go wrong with that. Nice off the beaten path location. Totally enjoyable food!

Way Overpriced. My wife and I picked up a couple sandwiches for a hike. We figured that for $20 apiece they would be loaded. They were smaller than Subway’s 6″ subs. Had I paid $6 – $8 for the sandwiches, they would have been ok. They weren’t even loaded up with meat. We were disappointed and wouldn’t go back. SPD’s sandwiches are 1/3 the price and 3X as good.

Stopped in for lunch and had the special for the day, the fried chicken sandwich. And easily one of my top five favorites. Not only do they have lunch but cured meats, sauces, tallow, sausage. A must try if in Nevada City!

Great little sandwich shop with good selection of charcuterie (cured meats and cheese). My favorite sandwiches are the roast beast and the gobbler (each $15)! The daily specials are amazing too!

They also have meat from local farms, local wine and beer, bacon they cure in-house, and house-made sausages that are delicious! Check this place out if you get a chance!

We got sandwiches for 7 people and no one thought they were good or sizable enough to be $20 each (prices not available online). If this were a $12 grocery store sandwich it would’ve been fine but in this context it was disappointing. We also had a pescatarian member of our party, staff was difficult to deal with trying to find something suitable stating they have no vegetables on the premises until we just asked if they could do a grilled cheese. Pickle spear was sad and pitiful.
Guy at the register had a sick mustache tho.
