If you’re thinking about ordering from New Hong Kong in Altamonte Springs, let me save you some heartache and a few bucks. We decided to try this Chinese restaurant one evening and, honestly, it was one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had—thanks to DoorDash, we didn’t even have to step foot inside.

We were lured in by the mouthwatering photos on their website, but what arrived was a complete letdown. I ordered the orange chicken combo, which was supposed to come with white rice and broccoli. Instead, I received a bizarrely orange rice concoction and—wait for it—no broccoli at all! The chicken had zero flavor, and I wondered if I was just eating colored cardboard.

Then there were the fried dumplings. I hate to say it, but they were downright disgusting. They had the chewiness of a rubber band and were completely devoid of any flavor. And don’t even get me started on the shrimp rolls. They were overly greasy, and the filling was mushy and bland.

We took one look at the meal and, without taking more than a tentative bite, decided to toss it all in the trash. This was our first-ever food delivery that didn’t even make it to the table. We ended up reordering from a different place, hungry and disappointed.

At a price point of $15-$20 per person, you’d expect at least a decent meal, but New Hong Kong missed the mark entirely. Save your money and your appetite for somewhere else—trust me, you’ll thank me later.

I don’t generally do a lot of reviews, but felt compelled to do so today. And unlike some – I really don’t enjoy giving a “below average” review , but facts are facts. I’ve patronized New Hong Kong for years, going back to when they were in the Winn-Dixie plaza, and was generally satisfied in the past. I went a couple of months ago – (made a couple of trips) and it appeared to be shut down, so I thought they were permanently closed . They seemed to be closed for several days, not sure what happened- but, I realized a couple of weeks ago that they were open again so I thought I’d give them a try. I ordered over $60 worth of food for my family. And here’s my honest review as I was deeply disappointed.

The crab Rangoon were the flattest That I’ve ever seen any EVER ( they used to give 10 per order, Niw it’s 6) but that’s ok because we only ate ONE anyway .. They were overcooked and I couldn’t even detect any filling inside. Moving on to the black pepper chicken, I’d seen a good reviews on it and while the portion size is ample- the dish was, at best, “OK” – I.e, Nothing to write home about. I also saw a great review on the fried chicken wings, “NOT” … I REALLY Did not like those – AT ALL- I ate one and trashed the rest. Then we ordered the sweet-and-sour chicken, I bit into one of those, and it was literally dough all the way through not one piece of chicken, Just a fried dough ball and several of the other ones were mostly dough with minimal chicken. Egg drop/wonton soup…. I won’t be getting that again either. As stated in the past, especially when it was near the Winn-Dixie plaza, this was my “Go To” For Chinese food, And I continued even after they moved over at Gateway Plaza . The last couple of orders have Not been the greatest, but today’s Order was the absolute worst I’ve ever gotten. It’s disappointing because it was not just one food item that was unsatisfactory – it was practically the entire order….. Having said this. I’m Giving them the benefit of doubt perhaps it was just a bad night (?) … Will I try them again?….. “Maybe”., But I definitely will not be feeding the fam. It will be a single entrée to see if they’re back up to Par again. Hoping it’s a better visit next time!

Decided to try this place as it’s close to my house and honestly I was extremely disappointed. Won’t be back. Ordered bourbon chicken and white rice and general tso with fried rice. Didn’t receive bourbon chicken but gave me two general tso and egg rolls were horrible and soggy. Crab ragoon had no filling

Folks, amazing food and fantastic service. I walked in to place takeout. I ordered the steamed vegetables with shrimp…not expecting anything unsual. I was so pleased. The vegetables were steamed perfectly and
shrimp were plentiful.

To add perfection to my experience, the service was friendly and attentive. I did not have to ask for basic items. All set in my to go bag with my fortune cookie. New spot for me. I am recommending this restaurant to anyone who loves fresh food and great service….even on a Saturday night!

So let’s cut down to the nitty gritty. Their food is par at best. But unlike the connoisseurs that assaulted a thesaurus, like our resident “local guide” – I can’t help but laugh at the sheer narcissism – their combo platters are extremely tasty. And the portion sizes are such that unless you’re a hormonal teenager that can eat their weight in food you have enough to save for lunch the next day. The owner and the staff are super nice too.

I think the only legit critique I could give is their steamed rice is kind of…bleh? It’s kind of gluey and unpleasant. But somehow their fried rice is great by comparison.

It’s fast Asian food but it’s delicious. Nice staff who took my order when I got there and they were patient food came out in 10 mins. Took it home and got to enjoy. Sesame chicken, egg rolls, dumplings lo mein all 5 stars. Krab rangoon is mid but it tastes good!

The food was very good. I made slight changes to my order, and Ani from the restaurant was very accommodating. The only difference I noticed is that plain fried rice was just yellow rice. I expected veggies, eggs, etc. It’s a little different. Overall, it was good. (Orange chicken and wings meal).

Krab Rangoon did not have much filling and was chewy, TSC and sesame chicken was dry it was only tossed in the sauce. No extra sauce with it. The fried rice was dry and did not have many veggies mixed in. Won’t visit again. Waste of money

I’m really happy with the new location of this restaurant. The old place in the plaza wasn’t as good. The food here is always tasty. I usually order beef and broccoli with white pork fried rice, white rice, and BBQ spare ribs. The staff is always friendly and welcoming.

I just ordered the House Special Fried Rice and I was really disappointed. The rice was yellow, cold, and had very little protein. I mentioned it was my first time at the restaurant and asked for a special recommendation, but the experience didn’t live up to that. I definitely won’t be returning.
