We were lured in by the mouthwatering photos on their website, but what arrived was a complete letdown. I ordered the orange chicken combo, which was supposed to come with white rice and broccoli. Instead, I received a bizarrely orange rice concoction and—wait for it—no broccoli at all! The chicken had zero flavor, and I wondered if I was just eating colored cardboard.
Then there were the fried dumplings. I hate to say it, but they were downright disgusting. They had the chewiness of a rubber band and were completely devoid of any flavor. And don’t even get me started on the shrimp rolls. They were overly greasy, and the filling was mushy and bland.
We took one look at the meal and, without taking more than a tentative bite, decided to toss it all in the trash. This was our first-ever food delivery that didn’t even make it to the table. We ended up reordering from a different place, hungry and disappointed.
At a price point of $15-$20 per person, you’d expect at least a decent meal, but New Hong Kong missed the mark entirely. Save your money and your appetite for somewhere else—trust me, you’ll thank me later.
The crab Rangoon were the flattest That I’ve ever seen any EVER ( they used to give 10 per order, Niw it’s 6) but that’s ok because we only ate ONE anyway .. They were overcooked and I couldn’t even detect any filling inside. Moving on to the black pepper chicken, I’d seen a good reviews on it and while the portion size is ample- the dish was, at best, “OK” – I.e, Nothing to write home about. I also saw a great review on the fried chicken wings, “NOT” … I REALLY Did not like those – AT ALL- I ate one and trashed the rest. Then we ordered the sweet-and-sour chicken, I bit into one of those, and it was literally dough all the way through not one piece of chicken, Just a fried dough ball and several of the other ones were mostly dough with minimal chicken. Egg drop/wonton soup…. I won’t be getting that again either. As stated in the past, especially when it was near the Winn-Dixie plaza, this was my “Go To” For Chinese food, And I continued even after they moved over at Gateway Plaza . The last couple of orders have Not been the greatest, but today’s Order was the absolute worst I’ve ever gotten. It’s disappointing because it was not just one food item that was unsatisfactory – it was practically the entire order….. Having said this. I’m Giving them the benefit of doubt perhaps it was just a bad night (?) … Will I try them again?….. “Maybe”., But I definitely will not be feeding the fam. It will be a single entrée to see if they’re back up to Par again. Hoping it’s a better visit next time!
shrimp were plentiful.
To add perfection to my experience, the service was friendly and attentive. I did not have to ask for basic items. All set in my to go bag with my fortune cookie. New spot for me. I am recommending this restaurant to anyone who loves fresh food and great service….even on a Saturday night!
I think the only legit critique I could give is their steamed rice is kind of…bleh? It’s kind of gluey and unpleasant. But somehow their fried rice is great by comparison.
