Fantastic pizza! I have been to many pizza places in the county but had never been to Penzos. I was pleasantly surprised by just how good the pizza was and the quality of ingredients. We ordered takeout and it was ready on time. For pickup I had to park across the street but it was a short walk followed by a cozy restaurant with a bunch of friendly staff. The pizza overall was great, we enjoyed the cheese and the high quality mushrooms. As a mushroom lover a lot of pizza places use the simplest soggy white mushrooms but not penzos, these were high quality! Can’t wait to get a pizza here again!

They make delicious pizza. It’s Neapolitan style. The tomato sauce has a nice flavor, the crust is thin on the bottom with a puffy cornicione with nice bits of char. The toppings are fresh. Service is excellent. Beautiful location. Best pizza in town.

I never write reviews, let alone negative ones, especially towards a family business, but I have to share my experience from here. I spent $45 on two medium pizzas. All I had saw on here were rave reviews so I wanted to give it a try. This has to be my worst experience at any pizza place ever. The gluten free pizza tasted disgusting. I’ve never had a pizza like that before in my life. The pizza was WILDLY undercooked, the crust crumbled and tasted like nothing. The meatballs on the other pizza were completely unseasoned and bland, not to mention the red sauce tasting like nothing but water. Again, I’ve never felt the need to write a review before, but this experience made me have to. I threw away two $20 pizzas because I knew no one would’ve eaten them. This was an awful experience overall.
I cannot recommend avoiding this place enough. Also, that picture that looks like grease is water. A legit puddle of water from the sauce. It basically ran off the pizza.

The pizza we had was very good.
LOCATION CHANGED. Not ideal for dine in.

I think it is important to clarify that this not the same location as shown in the photos. The place moved from the old charming location to the new…less inviting one (see pictures). Nothing wrong with that, but if you are out of town and decide to eat here based on those expectations you’ll have a big disappointment (as we did).

The other thing worth mentioning is that they no longer serve the full menu, again, as suggested by the old photos and the google recommendations. They only serve pizzas, and salads. No appetizers, no pasta…no meat balls.

I don’t recommend this place for dine in. There are only two tables, and if you have sensitive eyes (like me) you’ll tear up the whole time because of the smoke from the oven. Guarantee your clothes will smell too.

Take out seems to be great, and probably what they are aiming for.

Penzo makes the perfect pizza. The dough is baked just right and there are enough tasty menu options that we can have a different meal each time we go. They are super friendly and just want to make the world a better place through good food. I’d also add that their prices are below the curve. We miss you in Montpelier!!!

This 12 inch pizza was a whopping $16. That would not be bad if this was actually decent pizza. Very over hyped, overpriced and overrated. This was one and done.

Tyler, Dave and the whole staff are absolutely amazing. They always take the time to greet everyone and answer questions. They make sure everyone has a great experience. The food is home just like grandma used to make for us on Sunday dinner. The sauce is so good alongside the meatballs there no other sauce like this one. My personal favorite is the Mikey Meatball pizza. This place is usually pretty busy and with only a few people running the whole restaurant you should have a little patience, enjoy the great seating outside. This place is a must have for great homemade food in Vermont

Ate at Penzo’s this evening. It was wonderful. We both had Espresso Maple Martinis, Brussel Sprouts appetizer, Penzo Pesto and Mikey Meatball pizzas and for dessert I had cannoli dipped in chocolate chips and drizzled with a raspberry sauce while my girlfriend had a cannoli with one side dipped in chocolate chips and the other side dipped in a pistachios. Everything was truly amazing. To enjoy this meal on their front porch was delightful. We’ll definitely be back.

Sooo happy to have this place in Essex! The pizza is fantastic, well cooked, great toppings and the special pizzas have unique and tasty combinations! The business is family owned which is an added bonus! Cannot recommend this place enough

Got takeout from them. Two gluten free pizzas and one regular. All three were bad and tasted burnt even though they weren’t. They also forgot to put bacon on the regular pizza. The gluten free’s texture was like bread crumbs, I’ve had great gluten free pizzas at other places around Vermont. This was by far the worst I’ve had. Will not eat here again.
