Cooking Girl in the Heights is a casual, bright spot. The service was friendly and attentive and there is a free parking lot.

For appetizers, the soup dumplings were. big, juicy, and wrapped in a thin skin that held all the deliciousness inside. The spicy tofu was light and flavorful,.

The Mongolian beef was tasty and well-seasoned, though it came with a generous amount of onions that could’ve been cooked a bit more. The golden corn was crispy and absolutely delicious. The salt and pepper shrimp were large, crispy, and very yummy, and the dry-fried green beans were cooked perfectly. We added beef to make it a bit heartier.

They were doing a raffle and gave us 2 tickets to enter. Will definitely come back here for more comfort Chinese food.

Food was banging, they don’t play with spiciness. Highly recommend. Pork was adequate. Thanks August.

Update: Yup this place , even the lamb is ⛽️. Thanks again August, until next time.

Amazing dumplings!! My wife and I just moved into the Heights and we found our new favorite place for dumplings. From the server to the seating and of course the food. I also have the hot and sour soup each time we eat here and it by far the best I have had in Houston. We usually spend at least $50.00 at a burger joint and the bill at Cooking Girl surprised us. We order 4-5 different dumpling choices and each order has between 4 and 9 dumplings per order and as mentioned I will have the hot and sour soup and my wife has the egg drop soup and the bill is right at $45.00 and we definitely feel satisfied when we finish eating. I must say the dipping sauces are amazing and a different sauce for each type of dumpling. The soup dumplings are my favorite and so damn good.

We had a great experience here. The server was very friendly and attentive and made us feel comfortable the whole time. The Christmas decorations were beautiful and really added to the atmosphere. The food was delicious and everything tasted fresh. Definitely a place I would recommend and come back to.

Is this the revival of cooking Girl that we’ve been waiting for in 2025?

I’ve been to most of the cooking Girl locations in town, and sadly hadn’t been very impressed with the quality of food lately.

This location however, is independently owned and fortunately did not disappoint. Dishes were tasty, and the prices aren’t wallet breaking like many other heights restaurants as of lately.

They also have full bar, and did I mention the prices are great?

The Whatafish 酸菜鱼 was the highlight of the night for me. It was cooked to perfection, with flavorful broth that balances the acidity, savory, and the spice level of the peppercorn.

The 小笼包 Xiao long bao was also done rather well, the skin was not overly thick and the broth inside was flavorful.

Owner/manager was very kind to say hi and made sure that we had a great experience. All the staff were very friendly and attentive as well.

I hope this restaurant will be successful and become the new anchor for sichuan destination in the heights.

Cooking Girl has quickly become a new favorite in the neighborhood. The second you walk in, the place smells incredible.

We had the salt and pepper shrimp (no shell), spicy boiled fish, and the soup dumplings. All flavorful, all worth coming back for.

The space feels lively with healthy plants, pretty chopsticks, and warm service. Lydia took great care of us. She speaks Mandarin, which made ordering easy for my mom.

This is their seventh location, and they’re about to open another one in Garden Oaks. They’ve clearly got a rhythm—and it shows.

Where tastes means everything this restaurant hits it bang on target. The moment we came in the atmosphere was very friendly and service was great. We had the beef dumplings that were so delicious and flavorful. We ordered kung pao chicken and beef with broccoli that just melted in my mouth. Will definitely be coming back again

I’ve been a loyal fan of Cooking Girl restaurants for years, and they’re hands down the best Sichuan spot in Houston! When I saw this new location open so close to me, I had to try it, and honestly, it might even be better than the original!!

Everything came out piping hot, full of flavor, and arrived quickly. The portions are generous, the prices are great, and I really appreciate the upgraded details here. Their rice is served in a metal tin that keeps it perfectly hot, and the iced water comes in metal cups that stay cold the whole meal.

The service was fantastic as well! My only wish is that they’d add the garlic pork belly and cucumber cold appetizer dish to the menu and offer a lunch special, but overall, this location exceeded my expectations!
