First, the service was excellent. Our sushi chef, Khet, was outstanding, so kind, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. He took time to talk with us, explain what we were eating, and made us feel right at home. You can tell he takes pride in his craft and in giving guests a great experience.
Everything tasted incredibly fresh and high quality. Chef Khet mentioned their fish is sourced directly from Japan, and we could truly taste the difference—the freshness, clean flavors, perfect texture, and beautifully balanced bites. I told Khet the sushi rice is one of the best in Dallas. He said they make their vinegar in house and that they carefully make their sushi rice with lots of attention. I was so happy to hear that.
It was also my husband’s birthday, and they surprised him with a birthday ice cream, which was such a sweet touch. Everyone was friendly and thoughtful, and the whole meal felt special from start to finish.
Tipping isn’t required, but we tipped anyway because everything—food, service, and hospitality—was wonderful.
We’ll definitely be back, and we’re already planning to bring our family next time. Great price, great quality, and a truly memorable omakase.
What we ate (from the omakase menu):
Sashimi
• Hirame (flounder)
• Hotate (scallop)
• Sake (salmon)
Nigiri
• Ebi w/ Uni (shrimp with sea urchin)
• Bonito (skipjack tuna)
• Tai (red snapper)
• Suzuki (seabass)
• Kampachi (amberjack)
• Tuna Flight (akami + chutoro + truffle)
• Sake Toro (salmon belly)
• Seasonal (chef’s choice of the week)
• Unagi (freshwater eel)
• Shimo-Aji (striped mackerel)
• Otoro (fatty tuna belly)
• Gindara (black cod)
• Hamachi (yellowtail)
• Daily Sensation (lobster / snow crab)
• Wagyu w/ Foie Gras (optional add-on)
Plus: handroll, miso soup, and ice cream.
The fish was fresh and was mostly white fish which is different from a good majority of places in town. What made it stand out though is the nigiri which has a taste combination differ from any other places in DFW.
Our omakase has a more asian twist than normal, where a surprise asian element was added on each piece, from a salted egg sauce to pickle onion and surprisinly but tasty fish sauce. Unexpected but definitely not unwelcome as it tasted both delightful and give us a fun experience!
The nori tacos with foie gras and quail egg were indulgent yet well-balanced, with a crisp nori shell and rich, savory fillings. The monaka with uni, ikura, and crab was a highlight — delicate, fresh, and full of layered flavors. The assorted sushi showcased excellent quality and freshness. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, with attention to both presentation and flavor. A must-visit spot for those who appreciate elevated Japanese cuisine.
The quality of the fish and ingredients was outstanding — incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully prepared. What really impressed us was the level of customization and care the chefs provided. Knowing we were celebrating, they went the extra mile to accommodate my wife’s special requests, including light smoking on select pieces and extra sauces on some of the Nigiri and Sashimi. These subtle touches made the experience even more personal and unforgettable. Beside the Ultimate Omakase, My wife and I added on some extra dishes to fulfill the night.
If you’re new to Omakase and are considering trying it for the first time, I can’t recommend this course enough. It’s a perfect introduction to the art of sushi — approachable, refined, and generous in portion and variety.
Thank you to the entire Yujo Umi team for making our anniversary dinner so memorable. We’ll definitely be back.
